Doc,
I am fine with him leaving or staying. He had a very nice season and cannot deny that. That said, I will sleep well regardless of his decision.

Looks like Mitchell is a better point guard than Kolek.   Oso looked like he didn't know what to do.   Lewis was flat footed many times on rebounds and just watched while on the court.   I would bring kolek off bench.   Need some clutch players .

This is one of the worst hot takes I've ever seen on this site and that really is saying something remarkable.

A lot can and will change in a hurry with transfers in today's NCAA, but I am presently bearish on the talent level of this team for next year sans Kur, Morsell and Justin.

Prosper was a definite bright spot today and down the stretch, Kam will be a dude, and Oso has untapped upside. But right now, I don't see a team that can get us where we want to go.

nyg

Kur, Morsell, and Elliott are gone.

Lewis probably to G League or wants to go somewhere else, like Dawson did.  Just seemed he lost interest or bored.

One other player will probably go.

That's five spots.  Two taken by incoming three star recruits and one by an unknown international player.  So, two openings or do they a a leftover?

Needs serious big time power forward and center from transfer portal. Then pray there is massive shooting and ball handling improvements from the leftover squad members.

Assuming Lewis goes pro (if he's in first round mocks, he really should) I'd be thrilled with 5 new starters. Talent wins. We don't have much.

I'm afraid Justin's stock has fallen as he and the team stumbled down the stretch. That said, if he's still a borderline 1st round pick when decision time comes I agree he should go.

Ah, don't know about that.  He will develop significantly over the summer.  Would love to have him back.

I agree though that MU will always be fine with any particular player leaving.  Justin is no exception.

What's your definition of fine?  MU hasn't been fine for a decade.

Lewis is 19 years old, he needs time to mature, played great most of the year, but with limited foot speed, he has along way to go to play in the NBA.  Average shooter, so where is he playing in the NBA?  Different game

Just that one person will not make the difference between an NCAA team and a team that will advance in the NCAA.

There is no part of this program; player, coaching staff or administration, that anyone should fret about losing or moving on.  That's not reactionary, that's just reality.
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.

At this point, as a fan, I want very much for him to come back, but I will also want nothing but success for him at the next level if that is what he chooses, ... but please come back, so much unfinished business

Agree. Lewis is not ready for the NBA or Bulgaria. Shaka needs to recruit over many on the roster and build a more talented team to compete. He also has to coach better. He was out coached too often this season. What an embarrassing finish. Its going to take awhile to shake off the disappointment.

I didn't say he was ready to play in the NBA. He's nowhere near ready imo. But I'm not sure he'll ever be, so if it looks like he may be a late 1st round choice and get some guaranteed money he should take it.

Shaka's style is fine if you do not play 3 on 5 offensively.  Kolek maybe the most frustrating player to watch as he does not have a mid-range game or floater.  Add in a center, both of them with no range what so ever, plus both centers that had no skill in rebounding, and you have a problem, need a Robert Byrd type player or David Boone

How about Robert Jackson or Terry Sanders?

Interesting that some folks are ready to discard a first-team all-conference player.

Amazing how eager some seem for Lewis' departure. The guy is a beast. His energy and drive is the heart and soul of this team. MU desperately nees him and more like him to be competitive next year. I pray he sticks around as long as he can. Very fun player to watch and the epitome of what MU basketball is, can and should be.

True when he plays aggressively, but not when he flew NBA the ball 30' away and stands flatfooted. Its so obvious that Smart doesn't coach rebounding as usually no one is underneath. Lewis is good but not yet a truly dominant player who can take over games like Marquette legends.

My hot take: you can't build a great team relying on the transfer portal. If we are hoping for a bumper crop in the transfer portal we are in deep doo doo.

How about giving Black some credit. He's a helluva defender and he clamped down on Lewis. Morsell did the same last year to Boukknight and it didn't hurt his draft stock unless you think the game made him fall from a top 10 pick to 11th.

Some people overreact to tournament performances.  It's just one game.  Scouts will look at his whole body of work.

Without Justin becoming an All BE player and NBA prospect, this team wouldn't have even made the tourney.  NBA teams will still view him as a prospect with some upside, and I think Justin gets drafted.  Likely 2nd round pick that they will try to develop over the next two years.

Justin has a chance to develop into a rotation level player if he can make 3s, rebound, and defend in the NBA.  A much better version of Juan Anderson.  Even if Justin fails at the NBA, he still projects to be a high level player in a foreign league.

Sure, I'd love for Justin to return. But I wouldn't be surprised if he goes.

I definitely build the program via the transfer portal. I would work very hard on getting two guys that will be here 2-3 years and a couple of grad transfers. They key to me is getting the right guys with time left in their college career. Give me an Omax and Kolek every year and develop them. Of all the guy's Shaka brought into the program I am most high on Omax and counting him to improve going into next year.

Why can't you? That seems like outdated thinking. I think it's more likely these days that you can't build a great team relying only on high school recruits, given that 800-1000 players transfer every year.
