Juan Anderson's Mixtape

All true.  My main point is that I think guys like this year's version of Kolek, OMax, and Kur need to be the 5th best starter at best if we really want to start winning basketball games at the level that I think most MU fans want.  I don't think they can be 3 of your 5 starters.  Obviously Kolek and OMax have 3 years to develop after this year so they could get there.  But to me I think we need to add quite a bit of talent to the roster.  I personally would not shy away from one and dones or five stars at all.  There will always be big egos at that high of a level of athletics.  I think we have a coach who can manage those egos.

We agree on the need for more talent.  This team will be an 8/9 seed for a reason.

Lesser competition, sure, but the guy averaged nearly 7 boards a game.  Shaka has said that rebounding is a personnel problem, so I'm all for bringing in a guy known for getting to the glass.
It's just as much a Shaka problem as it is a personnel problem.  He's never had good rebounding teams.

There isn't a single high major player Brown.

He gives up 4 inches to Kalkbrenner.

And it shows in their head-to-head matchup in the Paradise Jam.  Kalkbrenner led all scorers with 19 points and 5 boards, versus Gainey with 9 points, 3 boards.

Why can't we ever land a skilled big guy like Kalkbrenner to wreak havoc in the low post?

hawk

Has anyone seen a picture of Itejere  or heard how he is doing lately?  He's listed as 6'9" and 205,what are the chances he gets to 225 before next season ?  MU needs somebody who wants to rebound more that they want to have sex.  Rebounding is desire and attitude.  Better find a guy soon.

dyckesville

Rebounding is all about positioning and blocking out, neither of which this team does well.

toward the end of the creighton game Kolek  missed a shot and followed it in to get the rebound.  In my recollection this is the only time I have seen any MU PLAYER do that..  Used to learn to follow your shot by 5th grade.

Following a perimeter shot, unless from the baseline, is bad basketball. It leads to bad shooting form, easy transition buckets for the other team and/or dumb fouls.

do we offer guys like him?

According to 247, Kalkbrenner was  the #134 recruit.

So not top 100, which would have led to some beyotching on Scoop.

Many thought McDermott would not survive his "plantation" kerfuffle, yet he recruits guys like Kalkbrenner and has 3 guys on the BE all freshman team. The Bluejays are in better shape for the future than we are with our young club.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

One MU recruiting target made it to the WIAA state tournament.   Milan Momcilovic from Pewaukee.  They play in D2, which typically plays Friday afternoon.  Title game would be 6:30 pm Saturday.

6-8 sharp shooting forward that also likes to post up and shoot fadeaways.

UNC signee and future transfer portal target Seth Trimble from Menomonee Falls made it in D1.  They play Friday night with the championship Sat at 8-ish.

Nick Janowski from Pewaukee has an offer from Shaka as well.  Plays like a bigger Kolek, probably a better fit in Shaka's system than Milan to be honest.

St Thomas More and Milwaukee Academy of Science both have multiple 2024s that are going to be high level D1 recruits as well.  Both of the MAS guards are big time athletes, and we know Shaka likes that.

Let's pump the brakes.  Last year was a high water mark class for McDermott.  He had 4 top 100 guys.  We know Shaka can recruit as good if not better and he's been an ace in the transfer market.

Nembhard, Hawkins, Kaluma, and Kalkbrenner is a nice young core, but I'm not sold that it's vastly better than Kolek, O Max, Kam Jones, and Joplin.  Plus I'll take next year's class, transfers not included, over Creighton's

I also think EE is going to be a beast as a pg in the Big East. Given how the staff talks about him and my own conjecture, think he is a big contributor next year.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

That seems like a high bar considering he's available and hasn't even been a minor contributor this year, except for a few spot minutes against the bottom of the conference (except the Providence blowout).
