Okay, so the only change to the chart following the transfer of OMP is to reduce available scholarships to zero..... I think.....I can't keep up.  ;D

I like the idea of Theo returning.  He is in the transfer portal now which was a surprise since he said he was done.  You think, since we have no center, a Theo return is possible?  Or neither Shaka or Theo are interested?

As others have said, I think Theo turned up in the portal now because playing options overseas are still very limited, and are likely to stay that way this year.  If you can't get paid, a one year, low-pressure transfer to new surroundings sounds pretty nice.

As much as we hate to think about it, seeing Theo at UW is a distinct possibility given his friendship with Davison.

Wait? There's been TWO transfers since I went to bed???? OMP AND Kolek?

Sh*t.... gotta fix the chart!

Didn't you have it at zero already?

Quick question. Theo John is allowed to return without counting against the scholarship cap, because of the COVID rule.

Can Elliott graduate, and claim the same, or is it forbidden because of a redshirt year?

Elliott counts this season.

Theo wouldn't but he's not coming back. Hearing he may end up at Duke.

Thanks. For the record, I wasn't implying Theo coming back, rather using him as the analogy for the extra year.

Wasn't sure if Elliott graduating could count under the COVID rule exemption or not. I had thought a player needed to request for the 5th year, and that it is always granted if they red-shirted. And then, if they didn't request the year, if they could instead request a COVID waiver...essentially working around the system.

Thank you for indicating that isn't an option.

Duke would be a good landing spot for Theo. 5th year guy being strong leader on a rebuilding program.

From 247's Duke board:

After sophomore forward Matthew Hurt announced his intention to enter the 2021 NBA Draft and forego his remaining college eligibility on Wednesday, the Duke Basketball roster's need for another post player was once again front and center.

The loss of Hurt's 18 points per game not only impacts head coach Mike Krzyzewski's team's offensive capabilities, it also leaves Duke with just two rotational players standing 6-foot-9 or taller. Fortunately for the Blue Devils, however, a recent entry into the NCAA Transfer portal might just be what the doctor ordered.

Marquette senior Theo John, a 6-foot-9, 245 pound center who averaged 8.2 points and 5.2 rebounds for the Golden Eagles last season, entered the portal on Wednesday afternoon. And Duke has, according to sources, reached out.

Theo at Duke would be quite a surprise.

Wherever he lands, I hope his body holds up. It seemed like he finished the year on two barely-functioning knees.

That offensive system is not suited for Theo.  They like to recruit bigs who can shoot the 3s.

Good fit. Knows the systems. Is primarily a chip pick setter with post up moves.

Maybe they are talking to Theo to lure Wojo back to take over for Coach K.

Looks like it should be -1. Wait  -2. Here comes Bates. Suggestion, take a breather for a week or so. Things may become more clear

So I suppose Bates remains the target.  All you twitter guys keep an eye on the interwebs for tidbits on this.

Is it safe to assume that Shaka has input/control over what goes out on the MUBB Insta?  If so, the most recent post on their story seems to imply that Theo is at least welcome back if he wants to be at MU. It's a picture of Theo with "#MUBBFamily" and three emojis: fingers crossed, blue heart, and gold heart.

Theo isn't a bad guy to come off the bench.  West Virginia would be a match made in heaven with Huggins, but Duke isn't Duke anymore.  They'll still get great recruits but if they don't have a "special" incoming class that can make leaps and bounds in a few months, Duke just isn't going to be a powerhouse anymore.  Alas, one of the most level playing fields in NCAA basketball history.

The head coaches that end up mastering the transfer portal will be the ones that elevate their schools to near blue blood status.

Duke was the 1 overall seed and lost by 1 point in the Elite 8 two NCAA Tournaments ago (including the Tournament that wrapped up a couple weeks ago).  They are absolutely still a powerhouse.  The only programs currently even arguably at the same level (or better) than Duke are Villanova, Gonzaga, Virginia, Kentucky, and Kansas.

You're talking prior to the transfer portal.  Look ahead.....not behind.

Okay, #mubb just put out a 'big welcome' press release discussing the 5 players signed in the last 24 or so hours. I suspect that's everything in the hopper at this moment as they would have certainly waited if another was somehow hours away.

Nice work coach. Let's play some ball.

Goose

My only disappointment was I thought last week was going to be the big haul week. I wonder if there will be need for another press release thanking any additional departing players.

I agree that the transfer portal is going to be a huge dynamic moving forward. But the 1 and done model will still work when the blue bloods can begin preparing for a season in June. This past season was a one off with so much uncertainty and nothing really coming together until October.
