I was very excited during the Buzz era and enjoyed it a lot. That said, it took me awhile to warm up to Buzz and by the time he had the hook in me I knew his time at MU was going to be short lived. My excitement level is high because Shaka is a big time hire and I think he is going to be here for a long time.

Note--I was jacked up when KO was here, but also knew he was going to be short lived at MU. IMO, this is the first time in decades that I believe that we have the right guy and he is not going anywhere for quite some time. Those two factors are very big for me.

I agree, I think he stays for a long time. I'm super pumped about it

Still haven't heard much about it outside of previous news. But do you think this puts RJ Davis back on the market as well?

Based on his quotes, it would seem that Shaka is actively trying to develop relationships with all the MU players and commits, and is likely encouraging them to take some time to get comfortable with the new relationships before making any firm decisions.

If so, might be why we haven't heard anything regarding "firm commitments."

'OMG, my parents are in MY bar!' Young Glow had some life lessons yet to learn.  Carry on; back to recruiting.

Just so we have this one get back to recruiting. Tall Titan posted this in the transfer thread as well.

The important part:

Bates backed out of heading to Austin when Shaka Smart left to take the head coaching job at Marquette.

"For me it was pretty simple," Bates said. "I committed to Coach Smart, not Texas. So when he left I knew I would have to look at my options."

So far, Bates has heard from Marquette, Gonzaga, Illinois, Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky and Washington.

He's an electric player. Hope to see him commit to Shaka a second time and wear the blue and gold.
