Wilson's Stevie Mitchell commits to Marquette to play basketball

"Wilson's Stevie Mitchell has committed to play basketball at Marquette, according to a published report.

Mitchell, a rising senior, did not respond to the Reading Eagle to confirm the report, but a source close to him confirmed that he accepted the Marquette offer Wednesday."

Maybe the staff likes other players more.

They obviously did. Unfortunately those who we offered prior to offering Hunter liked other schools/staffs more than Marquette('s).

Yea like this Stevie Mitchell kid who we offered back in Dec 2019 and didn't even offer Hunter until May 2020.  Too bad it sounds like we're missing out on this Mitchell kid.

Seriously guys, I realize that a lot of you are Nojo's, but can we at least all agree that the staff has a better idea of what's going on with MU recruitment than we do.

What does this even mean? You know MU offered Mitchell months before Hunter, right? Who knows which kid ends up the better college player, but the timing seems to indicate which the coaching staff saw as the higher priority.

Mitchell tweeted a commitment announcement will occur next Wednesday.

Or because we took our good sweet time to offer and by then he had offers from programs as good or better than ours.

I think that was covered by the "million other reasons"

Clarification of Previous Tweet/247 Sports has reported that the Chrystal Ball has changed for PG recruit Stevie Mitchell. There has been no commitment. We regret the error.

I didn't know we offered Mitchell well before Hunter - my bad.

I do know that we were late in offering Hunter, who looks to me like a better, more athletic prospect than Mitchell. Hope I'm wrong and that Stevie is the next Travis.

Reading? Yeah, I did a lot of reading this past winter. Somehow missed the offer to Mitchell, though.

I watch Duane Wilson play against Bronson Koenig in high school. Wilson was quicker and more athletic. Koenig turn out to be a way better player.

I think this is a textbook case of "I'm trusting the staff's talent evaluation".  Remember when some people here were slightly exasperated when we originally offered RJ Davis because he was ranked around 150 at the time.  I believe Oso was un-ranked when we offered him.  While I can certainly understand not buying into the insta-hype surrounding Dex yet, he certainly looks like he has the potential to be better than the 400th best player in his class.

Also keep in mind that the staff has notably been going after bigger guards for the post Markus era.  Considering all three of Kam, Hunter, and Stevie are considered borderline top 100 players, if they're considered equal and we can only get two of the three, I'd take the two biggest which is Kam and Stevie.

Further, while I'm sure it lowers our chances, I don't think it completely eliminates us for Hunter if Stevie commits.  We're guaranteed to have 5 openings, and if DJ leaves that becomes 6.  While a big is pretty much required to be one of those, I could also certainly see three back court players.

To be more clear, how does it "look to you" that Hunter is better if you haven't seen either play?
I've seen neither play and have no idea who's better.

"Looks to me" is a figure of speech. As in, based on the information I have seen, it "looks to me" like Hunter is a better prospect than Mitchell.

Honestly not sure if you are making a clever quip or not, but Mitchell is from Reading, PA. If you were making a funny, I apologize for ruining it

Reading, Reading, tomato, tomahto. I was going for clever, but no need to apologize.

The bullcrap meter running high in this thread.

Marquette was late to offer Tyrese Hunter?  Of Hunter's 10 finalists, Marquette was the first to offer and from I've been told, recruited Tyrese as intense or more intense than any of the finalists.

Tired of people painting their anti-Wojo agenda with inaccurate information.

Agreed. They are bitching to bitch.  Nothing more.  You cannot like the coach but come with an informed opinion on a topic that supports your point.

I have zero information on recruiting and come here to be informed by people who follow it closely.  Thank you to those who do that.  I appreciate your knowledge and passion for it.
