Don't gamble with your future. Draft status is harder than ever to predict w the virus & you want to be ready. Marquette disrespectfully takes another pg. Trust in a Championship program with a Hall of Famer. Never gamble with your future. MSU is a home run decision.

This is a bit off topic, but interesting I thought. Everyone used to get all worked up when Buzz or Crean would over sign. Well, I saw Matt Haarms has Texas Tech on his final list...IF he were to commit there..They would be over signed by...not 1..not..2..not 3...but 4!! 4!! Now Jahmius Ramsey has yet to declare for the pros, so you can assume that frees up one, but they would still have to clear up 3 more roster spots.

I can only imagine how people here would feel if MU did that. Reading Texas Tech's board, Beard is a 100% win now guy and has NO tolerance for guys that don't develop almost right away. Sounds like if you don't get better in year 1, he will be done with you. Interesting philosophy.
I have no problem over signing by one in the early(fall) signing period, because there is a high chance someone will decide to leave. I do not like it in the spring, because you know the players have made a commitment to you. I would especially object, if you recruited someone in July or August and then told a player to leave.

Good thing the Tech administration doesn't have the same philosophy for their coaching staff.

That's a stupid philosophy.  Some kids develop slower for a variety of reasons.  Some kids peak as freshmen.

I wonder how he feels about transfer rules and NIL

I think it's a fine philosophy if you're able to recruit enough good players.  Some good ones will leave...obviously, but if you can backfill those guys with other high level players, it doesn't really matter.

So far so good for Beard, but we'll see how long he can get it to last.  I would imagine at some point if he's cutting 2-4 players per year, the recruits will start to look elsewhere.

From Eric Bossi, obviously before MU offered...

During the winter, I was intrigued by Elizabeth (N.J.) Patrick School big man Samson Johnson
and thought the 2021 prospect would take off during the spring. My colleague Corey Evans felt the same and we put him into the Rivals150. If anything, there's a good chance that we were conservative but figured that would take care of itself when he ran with the NY Jayhawks this spring and summer on the Adidas Circuit.

Here we are with the summer basketball up in the air and Johnson's opportunities to show what he can do being limited. The long and short of it is that he's got good size at nearly 6-foot-10, he can really run, he's got a great frame to build on and he's dripping with potential as a mobile shot-blocker who can be a defensive disruptor with potential as a scorer. A native of Togo, he's got big upside as a prospect.

Schools are picking up though. Johnson has now scored offers from Connecticut, St. John's, Syracuse and Xavier while Cincinnati, Georgia, Miami and Western Kentucky have been showing interest. Johnson recently conducted virtual visit with UConn and Xavier.

Jay David, the executive director the NY Jayhawks, is certainly a believer and has good reason.

"I know it sounds like rhetoric but he's a high character hard working kid," David told Rivals.com. "At 6'10, he has a 40-plus vertical with 7'5/7'6 wingspan with the ability to step out and hit the high school three-pointer consistently. He is one of the best forwards in the country."

I mean I look at it like this...what IF...Carton stays more than 1 year...what IF Mane comes to MU and decides he too will stay more than 1 year. Then if he committed too, there's just be too many Guards. Even if neither of them stay more than a year, if you land the DII transfer or Perez, you are actually gaining experience over a Freshman.

Izzo doesn't strike me as a top choice if you want to leave early for the NBA.  He has had plenty of high level recruits who have not sniffed the NBA even after years at Mich State.   If you want to win in college, I think he can be a good choice.  But to promote Izzo as the coach for a one and done guy I'd have to question.

He is not the coach you go to as a one-and-done.  He's had plenty of guys leave early for sure and be successful but he isn't a guy that will push players to leave early even if it's evident they have nothing to gain by staying in school

I don't really even know what this means.  When he had Jaren Jackson, Jr on his team a couple of years ago, Izzo was more than supportive when he declared after his freshman year.

Izzo is like most coaches.  If you are good, he will play you.  And if you are really good when you play, you can declare for the draft.

Let's not do too many mental gymnastics about this.
