Zed Key taking official visit to Marquette 9/21. Adam Zagoria posting several MU staff photos/info. (Entire staff is seeing Key today before the in home visit tonight with RJ Davis) He's been at the open gyms today and yesterday in Metro NYC.

Marcus92

Key looks like a strong inside player and defender. More in the Theo John style of offense; seems most comfortable with dunks and jump hooks in the low post, although he will occasionally take a spot-up jumper from 10-15 feet. Zed will take an official visit to Ohio State this weekend. St. John's also in the mix.

Zed Key averaged 13.5 ppg and 6.5 rpg at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in Charlottesville, Virginia earlier this summer. Rivals lists him at 6-8/230 and called him the player who "boosted his stock the most":

"Key was adding high-major offers as an underclassman before some weight gain slowed his recruiting momentum. That will change. Key was one of the most productive players at the entire event. He is a smart, savvy and skilled low-post and below-the-rim type of big man. Many of the regional mid-majors have come to value him but that might become more difficult thanks to his consistent showings in Virginia."

Also, brief post-camp summaries on other MU recruiting targets:

A.J. Hoggard
"...displayed tremendous passing and playmaking abilities at the point of attack."

R.J. Davis
"...a shot-making standout that reeled in offers from UCLA and Vanderbilt as his stock continues to rise."

Key received an offer from Virginia Tech after the camp and visited the campus later that month. Additional offers from Seton Hall, Pitt, Wisconsin and Florida, among others.

With the departures of four primary rotation players (Markus, Sacar, Ed and Jayce) -- including two if not three starters -- Marquette will basically need everything: ballhandlers, outside shooters, slashers, on-ball defenders, rebounders, inside scorers and post defenders. Would love to see MU land one from each of Davis/Hoggard and Dawson/Osa -- and maybe a wing from somewhere.

Osa only averaged 10 points.  What excites recruiters is is ball handling ability combined with a 6'8" height.  I'm pretty sure that MU and others look at him as a wing, not an inside player or even a stretch four.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Desmond is also getting interest/offers from Iowa, Minnesota, Kansas State and Georgia Tech, among others. Long and lean for a guard (6-3 with a similar physique to Greg Elliott), looks like a pretty good athlete with a decent handle and shot. Might be a late bloomer. Seems worth keeping an eye on -- especially since he's right in our backyard.

Stanford has an in home visit with Ryan Kalkbrenner this morning. Relevant because it indicates they would still have a scholarship open for Osa.

Yep, not probably a factor here.

Kalkbrenner had Creighton, Stanford, Purdue, home visits this week. All of those have recruited him a long while. But Kansas has swooped in more recently, visited him yesterday, and offered. Those seem to be his schools for now. He's a 7 footer, a 5 for those that are unfamiliar. His Stanford possibility wouldn't likely be a factor with Osa's recruitment.

brewcity77

I was just pointing out Stanford still has an open scholarship.

I understand. And, I agreed with you that his recruitment wouldn't affect Osa's for them. Stanford has recruited him (Kalkbrenner) a long while and there isn't really a strong read on a favorite for him just yet among those mentioned.

This is why you offer and monitor a kid like this. Wojo and staff really seems to be good at identifying "late blooming talent" before they bloom. Osa, RJ, Lewis and Zed are good examples of this given their rise on the rankings.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Stanford also in for 2020 PF Ben Carlson today. They are definitely looking to add another front court player.

No one has had an in-home with Osa that I have seen, including Marquette. From what I've seen, the only report on his recruitment since he finished his last visit was the Evan Daniels article indicating a decision could come in the next 48 hours (6 days ago) and was likely down to Marquette, Stanford, and Texas.

Xavier is apparently the favorite to land Carlson. They already have 2 4-stars and a 3-star in the 2020 class, on top of what appears to be a good 2019 class. Impressive recruiting for a new head coach, even one from within the system already.

Ha—When Dick Bennett went to Terry Porter's house DB said there was no furniture, so they sat on turned over milk crates.
Bennett said TP stared him in the eye the entire visit. TP said he only needed one chance...and he was right.

Mrs. Bennett gets an assist in Porter's recruitment.   Dick, accompanied by his wife, went to a high school game to scout a player.  He asked his wife what she thought.   Mrs. Bennett said Dick should recruit the kid on the other team instead.

That other kid was Terry Porter.  Bennett was scouting a player playing against Porter's team when he (and his wife) discovered Porter.  Talk about lucky timing!
