So, I'm sorta with Brother Hoopster here....sorta.

The assertion that Mannion will not be a star at Arizona, Duke, MU, or Nova because he is white is dumb. No other way to say it. Every one of those schools had star players who are a white within the last season!

I do think there is a perception amongst NBA GMs and coaches (and fans) that white players can't be as good as black players that might cause white players to go lower in the draft. In fact, I think Brother Hoopster's post is kind of evidence of this!

So how many white NBA players should have been drafted higher?  As a percentage, is that any different than black players that should have been drafted higher?

rocky_warrior

This is a moderating conundrum...do a remove a post because it is racist? Do I leave it along because he admits to being racist? But most importantly, does the post exhibit hate speech?

To the latter, I think no. And you guys can reprimand him for being racist...

Forget racist, it should definitely remain as a monument for being dumbist.  It's a veritable shining beacon of Dumbism.
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

C'mon guys, please don't get the recruiting thread locked. Take your racism over to the Superbar.

Again, I think it's fun that folks on both sides of this argument are claiming to know what's going on in the heads of 16-year-old basketball players.

But to a 17-year-old kid who has been the star of every team he's played on since Biddy Ball?

Starting definitely, absolutely, 100% matta.

That's pretty funny, DJO. No excuses or alibis ... I plead guilty!

But at least I didn't say that Nico was only gonna be a bench player because he apparently is the wrong color to start.

Hey, at least you owned up to it.  That's a lot more than I can say about a lot of folks here, potentially myself included.  And props for not being racist, you're definently one of the better ones out there.

The #3 pick in the 2018 draft was white. Did he fall because of that?

I have no idea. But I have heard thought processes about white players not being good enough athletes to make the NBA repeatedly for years. I have never heard the same about black players.

Well brother hoopster is an example. Pro athletes and talking heads will talk about it occasionally. I remember Jordy Nelson saying in an interview that he is consistently underestimated because of his race.

As Hoopster acknowledged, it's racist. No other qualifier needed. Especially when there's no questioning the athleticism of white Europeans. I really think this doesn't need any further justifications or endorsements.

So, its racist if white athletes are thought to be athletically inferior to black athletes?

Well if we want to analyze his shot, it needs work.

He is too stiff.  One of the biggest key's to consistency in shooting is to make sure your shoulders stay relaxed...he is stiff as a board, which will lead to inconsistency.

Yes.  Anytime you classify people by race, versus their individual ability, it is an example of racism.

If Mannion isn't athletic he has done a good job of hiding it from the scouts and coaches.

From 247

The newest member of the 2019 five-star crop, Mannion reclassified from the 2020 class and immediately hopped into the top 20 of his new classification as the No. 2 point guard and No. 17 overall player in the 247Sports Composite. Scouts and college coaches alike have become big fans of Mannion's versatility at the point guard position, and his understanding of when to take over. "Mannion is a true point guard who continues to get better," Gershon said. "He has good size, plus athleticism and is highly skilled, as he can handle, shoot, pass and create. Mannion does a good job mixing shooting and creating and is a player who has consistently improved over the last few years."

My argument was never about whether it was racist or not. My argument was that the stereotype exists.
