Am i stuck in 2010.

Or are you two just refusing to admit that, shoe culture, and relationships from it still exist and affect recruitment.

And are you doing so under some strange POV that local people want to go to college locally.

How many recruitments of Phenom players would our staff do again with 20/20 hindsight... Kinda just Kon. Thats kinda it.

No I think that it makes perfect sense for Davis to go to ISU regardless of the shoes they use. They play a great style of basketball in a fun environment and TJO seems like a great guy to play for.

I will say... that this is more of an Anti-Wojo post than anything else

My inital point was you didn't need a crystal ball to know he was going to Iowa state.

But apparently I am saying that he is only going to a top 25 basketball program because of its shoes.

Quote from: wadesworld on Today at 10:28:40 AMYou really think Nike is telling kids playing on Nike AAU teams that they can't go to Jordan Brand schools?  The brand that is...well, part of Nike?

So they're telling Donovan Davis that he has to go to Iowa State over Marquette, but they're letting a MUCH higher profile recruit in Caleb Wilson play at Jordan Brand's flagship program, UNC?

Sure.  I'm buying it.
Facts and simple common sense have no place here. Step aside while agendas are be ranted about.

Yes, you have been saying that.  And it's an absurd take.  Nike couldn't lock up Cooper Flagg, who played for a Nike AAU team, went to Nike's flagship program, and yet he signed with New Balance.  Again, this isn't decades ago.  Players will go to whatever school will pay them, and the shoe brands aren't the ones making their payments anymore.

And this is an arguement againist anything I said?

Phenom primarily sends their guys to nike. They have good relationships with Iowa State.

Predicting Davis is going there is easy.

Yes.  The point of shoe companies paying high school players to go to schools within their brand was to get in on them early and sign them to shoe deals if/when they become stars in the NBA.  The shoe brand connection doesn't mean much at all anymore.  Schools themselves are paying players.

And again, Jordan is a NIKE BRAND!

You made a decade outdated argument.  It's all good.  Iowa State has had a great pipeline to high level Milwaukee area recruits.  It has nothing to do with Phenom sending kids to Iowa State because of Nike.

I wish we signed Wisconsin's very best players, even if they play in Chuck Taylors.

It's almost like a majority of the top college basketball program are Nike schools.

Here's the hilarious thing you continue to ignore..

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

Everyone knows that nearly all kids want to play as close to home as possible.  That's why Nigel James chose St. John's, Adrien Stevens chose Maryland, and Royce Parham chose Pittsburgh.

No, those guys all played for Jordan Brand AAU teams.

TallTitan34

This has to be a bit.  Do you really not know Jordan is a Nike Brand?

I've never cared enough about the brand-alignment for recruits to look into them but I feel like NIL has likely put a dent in that consideration for recruits.

Geography is also highly subjective. Some kids want to play close to home and others might want to play in cities or where the weather is nice.

Willie dropping this nugget into a thread that is discussing shoes and brand loyalty is pretty awesome, imo

You literally said that.

Quote from: jfp61 on Today at 10:07:00 AMOr you can use your brain and reasonably deduce that the top players at Phenom are likely headed to Nike schools.

Once again, Reeker places small foot into big mouth. This thread is about recruiting and my comment was about recruiting. Reekers comment was made because I live rent free in his mind. Take another sabattical, please.

This also shows that MU's recruiting emphasis is primarily out of state. As long as MU wins, I don't really care if the players are from the state or not. I just think it's interesting that MU hasn't landed any of these players. MU has landed some good players from out of state but they've also landed a number that were not nearly as good as some in-state prospects.

Maybe Minessale will help change that situation!  At least MU outbid Iowa St for him!

I wonder if MU being quiet in the portal is because they're waiting on signing Donovan Davis to reclass him. They're two different kinds of players but it's a roster spot?

If we sign Davis, that would rule. That said, we have such a logjam of 6'7" small forwards on the roster and I don't see Damarius or MPIII getting drafted. Not saying no to that sort of prospect, especially if he can give us real depth at PF

one thing is for sure, the state of Wisconsin produces HS talent. Not Phenom guys...and not even a 4 or 5 star recruit by most rankings, but Tyrese Haliburton was damn good. Jordan McCabe another that had game.  I find it perplexing that MU didn't get even one from your list. (I do think we'll pick up one of Kon's brothers, however)
