Quote from: jfp61 on May 08, 2026, 11:07:26 AMIt feels like the 2027 players marquette are looking at are point guards.

And I wouldn't be shocked if transfers are part of the plan looking forward.

I'd be shocked if transfers aren't part of the plan moving forward. It'll be majority HS recruits, but I'd expect 1-2 transfers whenever there's a need for it.

I see the chance that Shaka avoids the portal going forward about the same as Shaka not playing freshman, encouraging the set shot or avoiding the 3pt shot.

VIOLENCE!

Quote from: The Lens on May 08, 2026, 10:58:35 AMI can see that.  And I understand it. And from what I read about the Mom, I get it.

Just surprised we're trailing Purdue and others.

I've seen the Dad at a few MU games in recent years as a regular fan.

MU never offered. Not sure if they were waiting to see if Kager was sufficiently talented or whether they knew he was a Duke target and outside MU's reach. A number of posters here questioned Kager's ability, but I assume it was the latter. Not sure what the issue is with in-state recruits and MU, but it doesn't matter if you win. UW seems to be having some similar issues with the top in-state players. It's likely just HS players' perception of relative program status. MU and UW are not on the same level as Duke, Gonzaga, ISU, etc.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

I'm absolutely stunned that Kager's recruiting is taking off. Zavier Zens has been the better player the last two seasons, and he was only heading to UNI until their coach left.  And I'm not really expecting him to have a big impact at Illinois.

I guess the rarity of a 6-10 shooter must be the driving factor for Kager.

I know the Zags are on a heater currently but they have less tournament appearances, S16, E8, FF, and zero championships.

In terms of program hierarchy they're below us.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

They've been better than us for like 20 years............recruits think they are above us and that's really what matters.

No one puts a fence around their state.  All recruiting is national.  It's 2026.

I agree. That said, we're not talking about getting all of them. I don't remember too many MU coaches that have taken fewer HS players from the state than Shaka. Maybe it's my poor memory. Joplin is the only one I can recall.

Buzz got Vander, maymon (a lot of good being "local" did) and Deonte

Shaka got NM and Jop. Still time for him to match Buzz's WI numbers.

Edit: forgot Buzz also got Jake Thomas... who isn't  exactly the best example of why we should be going after WI players.

Since Crean left, are Joplin and Heldt the only two to play 4 years at MU?

Sean Jones was here for 4 years and graduated. He could have tried to play as a junior but opted to sit out and redshirt.

Wojo ......Ellenson, Sandy Cohen, Sam, Joey.....

You know in retrospect......it's really too bad that Wojo couldn't coach defense......because he really brought in a lot of great talent..........

It shows you what those recruits think of Duke.

The point should be that we should be on the same level as Duke, Gonzaga and ISU. There is no reason we should not be on that level except excuses and low expectations.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind. Rick Pitino: "You can either complain or adapt."

Pretty pathetic track record for Shaka Kahn

Jaxson Davis can play.
Jaxson Davis (born c. 2009) is an American high school basketball player who currently attends Warren Township High School in Gurnee, a northern suburb of Chicago, in Lake County, in Illinois. He is a consensus four-star recruit in the class of 2027. He was the first sophomore to ever win Illinois Mr. Basketball and the first to win the award twice before his senior season. He is also a two-time Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year winner.
