Duke just signed the first, second, and fourth ranked recruit in the class of 2022.  Not to mention the 21st, 26th (verbal commit but not signed), 65th, and 136th.  They (still) select, they don't recruit.

Yup.
And they already have commitments from the #6, #9 and #18 players in the Class of 2023.

247 isn't always accurate on tracking offers but they list only 8 offers for Duke in the 2022 class. They landed 6 of them. Selecting not recruiting is the right description.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

That's coming off the heels of Coach K taking them to the Final Four. It remains to be seen what Scheyer will do for them. Of course they are still going to get guys right away after his departure.

Most of those guys were signed well before Duke went to the Final Four.  Every one of those kids knew that Coach K would not be their coach and that they would be playing for John Scheyer.  And unfortunately JP Estrella will be coming in "right away after his departure" just like the 3 other top 20 class of 2023 commits are.

There was a time, though, when Norman felt like he was back in Boston and that was when he checked out the Marquette Gymnasium, aka the Old Gym.

The historic building, located on the edge of the campus, was built a century ago. It was the first full-time home for Marquette's men's basketball teams to practice and play games. Legendary coach Al McGuire's powerhouse teams of the '60s and '70s used to practice in it.

These days the Old Gym is used for other Marquette athletic activities and school functions, although Norman wouldn't mind it was still the Golden Eagles' practice facility. After all, he is, by his own admission, old school.

"It reminded me of some gyms in Boston,'' Norman said. "There was something about it I liked. When it comes to gyms, the ones with no AC and just fans make me happy. AC is for bougie people and I'm not one of those bougie people.''

Don't tell KO that MU is now attracting recruits based on the Old Gym.

Looks like Duke offered JP Estrella.  If the offer is solid, tough to see him coming to MU.

Why?

An offer from Duke is still an offer from Duke, but with Coach K gone that offer isn't what it once was.

I have a feeling UNC will run the East coast for awhile now that they have a Championship team returning the same year Coach K hangs it up.
You never know how freshmen are going to perform, but Duke may have more talent than UNC this year.

Devin Royal discusses MU and the other schools recruiting him.

Marquette: "I have a great relationship with their staff. I like how they run things; Shaka (Smart) is a great coach. They like I can do whatever they need me to do, run the floor, score, things like that."

Has visited MU. Penn State and Iowa State. Plans to visit tOSU and Michigan State this month and commit before his senior season.

I am looking at the scholarship table, curious why he is recruiting another guard?  Really needs one of the big boys to replace Weightsil at this point. MU really spends a ton of money bringing kids in, with maybe one or two openings next year.  If he signs 2 more, it really puts a bad sign on the kids here right now.  Who is the top priority?  Estella or Royal?  What happened to Dai Dai as well?

Our guard play wasn't close to top tier last year. Every guard except stevie was a turnstile at the end of the year. Shaka is going to play 3 guard lineups. Last year he only didn't because OMax and Lewis were efficient at both ends. Playing 3 guard lineups means the roster should be close to 60% guards. Seeing how we might use all 13 scholarships next year, 8/13 is 61% guards.

Priorities.
1 forward. Estrella, Carey Booth, Alassane Amadou, Devin Royal
1. Guard. Tre' Norman.... Swain, Ames, and Dual.

MUfan12

It stands to reason we could see a departure or two from the guard ranks depending on how minutes play out. Doesn't hurt to cover the bases.

Don't know how reliable these ranking are.  Zade not being ranked is interesting.  Really have no choice but to hope that Shaka is smarter than the average bear. We will see.

Didn't Zaide get a late start to competitive basketball? That's probably why.

Not saying that newsie (by the way love your schtick with and without Rico).  Just hope these low rated recruits are not a red flag.  I'm on the Shaka train. This year will be telling.

Lowery is ranked 92 by Rivals and is 121 on the 247 Composite rankings.

I wouldn't worry about his ranking.

tower912

Lowery is heading to prep school.    I will worry about him in a year.  Or two.   Maybe three.    Oh, wait, because MU is stacked at guard.     Seriously, unless somebody leaves, Zaide will be the 7th guard on the roster.   (Kolek, Mitchell, KJones, Ellis, SJones, Ross)    You can never have too many big, athletic, slashing, multi-position defending players on your roster.     However, there is absolutely no pressure on Zaide to produce at MU until at least two years from this coming season.

Need to sign a versatile big wing or Estrella type with the last schollie.

Don't worry about Lowery.

If you commit early, arnt a top 50 guy, arnt on the circut, and out of sight. Your ranking won't go up at all. These companies arn't incentivized to write about you.
