I think there will be more surprises with the roster over the next couple of weeks. One a side note, is Garcia athletic enough for the new look Warriors?

Yes.

Shaka recruited Dawson in HS so in the least he believes he'll get there.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

Educated guess, or shot in the dark?

Aidoo to Tennessee as expected.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

Shaka kept 2/3 Wojo recruits and has brought 3/4 of his Texas recruits, with Bates still undecided.

The Shaka system looks like 3 guards 6-2 to 6-5 and 2 forwards 6-7 to 6-11.  Emphasis on length and athleticism.

Lots of raw prospects coming in that need to add strength and refine their skillsets.  I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple redshirts. Ellis and Itajere look like the most likely candidates, at least to me.

Player development will be key.  I think the turnaround might take longer than some expected.  But the roster is always fluid; if anyone leaves, that opens up a spot for a more talented transfer.

Agree with everything you say here, but IMO I think our redshirts will be Itejere and Kam Jones.  I see Ellis having a nice role from day 1.

I do not think kids today are thinking.  Great I signed with MU, now I can redshirt.  There thinking they can start.  Remember in todays world, you lose 1 or 2 kids
every year as they want to start, when they do not they can enter the transfer portal.  Competition for starting time or even playing time next year will be interesting.
Impressed MU as on now as not lost anybody but Torrence.  They over recruited him hopefully.  Shaka keeps Garcia they can be pretty good next year.  I am sure Garcia
is happy with the new additions.

How 'bout all the recruiting that's going on?

If you're going to Panama to try and buy a player, you've got to know whether to use Balboas or dollars!
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Ben Steele making it seem like their is either coaching or recruiting news ON TOP OF ALL OF THIS coming later today.

Had he already Tweeted about the Keeyan commitment?  Or could that be the other news to come?

He's not bringing guys into redshirt, he is bringing guys into play. There are going to be some unhappy returning guys, but they will have a great seat for the games.

I know there's been chatter about DeAndre Haynes joining the coaching staff, and Darryl Morsell, the B1G Defensive Player of the Year, joining him in Milwaukee.

There's a chance that might be what Steele is hinting at.

It makes a lot of sense, but there was also a 247 article on Morsell yesterday with no mention of Marquette.

Jones is another redshirt possibility.  I went with Ellis because of he won't turn 18 until July.  He's on the younger side of his class, just like Vander Blue and Sacar Anim.  Sure, Howard was even younger but Ellis isn't close to that skill level.

Spirit Of James

Granted it's a points-based system influenced by quantity, but MU jumped up to the 15th best 2021 recruiting class on Rivals with the latest commitments:

Just checked Kam Jones social and he seems really excited to be here. Retweeted all of the news from today, etc. Although, is it official that he is still coming here? With Mitchell, you got quotes saying things like "Shaka told me he believed in me and wanted me, etc."

I just haven't seen the same with Kam. I think there's very little chance he comes here and redshirts, especially since he wasn't recruited by this staff.

Kam is coming here. He's been pretty clear about that.

Yep. There is no way he would have reaffirmed his commitment without having an understanding with Shaka about the things that have changed with the coach switch

In the tweet we're all referencing, he tagged Keeyan as a commit.  So it'd be something else.

Unclear if it was recruiting news or staff announcement related. If it's recruiting, feels like Bates would be the most likely (we haven't been very hot on anyone else in the transfer portal unless Morsell is out of the NBA draft eval).

I, for one, am excited.

I don't think anyone declares a redshirt from the outset, but as is almost always the case, an incoming freshman will break a hand or foot early on in practice, and the redshirt will take care of itself.  Which, with this roster make-up, is probably a good thing for everyone involved.

True, I guess I was expecting something more formal from him. Love his enthusiasm about the program and think that could make him a fan favorite here.

Absolutely. It's great to see him and Stevie embracing Shaka and the team so much after committing to Wojo. I think MU has something special in Shaka in terms of his ability to both keep old relationships with players and recruits and also being able to create new ones

Redshirts are under utilized in basketball.  A guy like Itajere would be much more useful in year 5 than year 1.  Look at Oso, who played less than 40 minutes all of last year.  Thankfully Oso gets a free covid year, so he might still be here four more years.

Plus, if transfers don't have to sit out in the future, the redshirt no longer gets penalized.  Players won't have to save their redshirt in case of transfer.

Whether Shaka utilizes redshirting remains to be seen, but I think it makes sense in some situations.
