Someone in the department approached me to take notes, I got paid for it.
Literally was no skin off my back, as I was taking those notes for myself anyway.

Quite the statement

Athletic or special needs department? Because in all seriousness it wouldn't surprise me if they got him a diagnosis of severe inattentive ADHD so that he'd get notes and other help from that department

Think it is safe to say that the three current priorities for this class are Garcia, Mane, and Terry. Get two of the three and a transfer or two and that's a helluva class.

Agreed.

I would be very surprised if this wasn't a common thing among most college sports teams. During the season I'd imagine athletes are missing an average of a day of classes per week for competitions on the road. That's 20% of your school week. Obviously they have tutors, but I'd think it'd be beneficial to have some notes from the actual lectures the class is having.

It is not uncommon for students with physical and/or learning disabilities to have tutors in class with them taking notes.

My son was a note-taker in college.  I can't honestly say I know who got the notes -- he turned them in to some on-campus office -- but I always was under the impression that they were for students with disabilities.

That's another model.  It allows those with disabilities to preserve their anonymity.

And Notre Dame Prep, with MU alums Lazar and Todd, was known to specialize in learning disability kids.  Beasley also went there. Larry didn't like that...put the kibosh on Buzz recruiting Sam Cassell's kid from there.

Before Cheeks jumps in with his Larry love, this is not a judgment on Larry, just a statement that what was allowed for Crean and Buzz was not going to allowed under the new sheriff in town.

What you can't record lectures? Back in the '60s even I had a small tape recorder which I then transcribed into notes.

Sorry, I know it is the recruiting thread!

The Larry/Pilarz regime did immeasurable harm to the program. Shame

High-major options in the backcourt are dwindling by the day, which makes the recruitment of Karim Mane one of the more peculiar ones this fall. The five-star out of Montreal, Quebec, is one of the very best 2-guards in the 2020 class, but his recruitment does not line up with his ability.

Maryland hosted Mane for an official visit during his junior year, and his next official visit is scheduled for Marquette on Jan. 3. Alabama, Cal and Illinois are among those also in frequent contact with Mane. While Kentucky had shown interest in the past and Michigan State recently placed a phone call, there is a distinct lack of blueblood interest for this blue chip prospect.

It is possible that programs are being scared off by the possibility that Mane is the next to skip college and jump directly to the NBA. He is already 19-years-old and will be a full year removed from his high school graduation by the 2020 NBA Draft next June. He could decline scholarship offers and instead earn an NBA paycheck next year.

That still is a big 'if,' as Mane remains focused on his final prep season. But what if he does decide to play a year of college ball? If that happens, kudos to the programs that have at least remained involved. Their work could pay off with the enrollment of one of the best talents in the 2020 class.

Some professors do not allow recordings of their lectures.  Both because they can then be shared with those who didn't make it to class, or because they wanted to be free to say something without fear of being recorded.  (Fr. O'Brien said this at the beginning of his political science classes.)

But also, reading notes as a supplement to a lecture oftentimes reinforces what the subject matter was about.  And helps those with disabilities.

What is "pompous" about it? Suggesting that Marquette is far from a blueblood?

When reading it, I didn't say, "Wow, that's pompous!" but I fully allow that I might have missed something.

Sounds like a kid well worth pursuing, but there might be a little "pursuer beware" situation there.

That's how a good bit of digital learning occurs now. My son had two classes in two years over the summer via internet. The classes were videotaped.

Can run the class through your Ipad on the plane to a game.

Too bad if the Professors don't like it. They're University employees.

Don't ever be disappointed by gossip, it's the trade mark of fake people. Rather be grateful that you know who they truly are. Never fear the enemy that attacks you, but the fake friend that hugs you.

I never know what a Stan tweet means. But my guess is that this is a response to some negative recruiting by IU.
