Heard from someone from point this spring that Joey was a Marquette lean. Lots can change though.

Now that we have Ike in the fold, what are the chances we can pick up Theo John as well. I would love to have a couple of these type guys on our roster.

Great question.  Everyone keep their ears open for recruiting developments especially on the PF front.  There's lots of names on the list.  Let's try to find out who remain true targets with mutual interest.

jsglow

Oh, BTW.  Mark correctly predicted Ike on May 14th.  Perhaps some posters might take note.  Nuff said.

Confident that John is still a top target with mutual interest along with Donnie Tillman. Wouldn't mind a guard with all those forwards but don't know who the top targets are there

So if we land another PF and then go after Joey Hauser the following year does Hauser project as a 3?  Does Eke project as a 5 in that case?  Can move guys around?

Are you asking if these players are...switchable?
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

I hope we are recruiting PF's & C's.
It is worth looking at Dukes roster. Look how many big  they have.

We need to be recruiting as many big as we can get our hands on. Now that we have Ike, lets get Theo John.

I'm not sure if showing Duke's roster proves anything.

Besides Nova, which did very well with "smaller" players, you can easily find quality programs that have rosters similar in height to our Golden Eagles.

For example, let's look at the roster of Notre Dame:

http://www.und.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/nd-m-baskbl-mtt.html

Similar in size to ours.

My point is height for height's sake may not be where we want to go.

I agree with your general point.  I just would like to see us have about 5 guys in the 6-9 range or better the following season after Luke graduates. I think Hauser is going to be an excellent player in time and I would like to see him be able to play the wing instead of the 4.

This year, I actually think Heldt is going to step up and give us 12-15 good minutes at the Center spot and Luke will be very good again. We have some good quality mid size guys and quick guards that will allow us to play up tempo.

I'm not sure Marquette has had 5 players 6-9 or taller on the roster during any season in its history.

Having a strong front court rotation — at least 3 players you can count on to score, rebound, defend the post and absorb some fouls — can form the foundation of a special team. If those players happen to be 6-9, great. But how they play is what matters.

The 1977 Warriors had Ellis, Toone, and Whitehead. Key, McIlvane, McCaskill and Eford (who averaged 6.2 rpg at just 6-5) led MU over Kentucky to reach the Sweet 16 in 1994.  In the 2003 Final Four, it was Jackson, Merritt, Novak and Sanders.

Let's at least get back to the NCAA tournament before we start comparing ourselves to Duke and its 5 national titles.

Wojo has gone after graduate transfers (Gill) and incoming freshmen (Young) this year.  He realizes the height isn't ideal both this year and next year.  It didn't work out.  He has taken steps to address it in 2017 with both his first commit (Eke) and with who else is on the radar.

It is what it is.  It is hardly a death sentence.

HoopsterBC

I would think Wojo will try and sign a grad transfer out of the three remaining scholarships available for 2017.   Sort of critical to sign at least 1 or 2 more bigs and
then hold one for spring to sign a veteran upfront.   Need some experience.

The last two years should show you that grad transfers are more difficult.  Especially guys with height.  Counting on that is a problem.

I think our lack of success has probably hurt us more than  anything.  If we make the NCAAs this year and we return everyone but Luke & JJJ, more transfer will look at us.

I think a grad transfer is only going to go to a team where he expects to start.

Good 3 point shooter from what I have read. Might be more of a switchable then a 4?

Agreed. Grad transfer is basically code for "wants to showcase their talents in a different venue in hopes that more people take notice." A few situations like Lockett where his mother's illness was a big concern are there too. But I imagine it is a lot more of the former.

It can be argued that every grad transfer that Wojo has wanted but didn't get (Lee, Gill) would have started.  It's more than that.  They want to make sure they are on a competitive team, and because they are so valuable, they have many suitors for their talent.  Counting on that all coming together is difficult.

6'8 switchables, especially 3 pt shooters, are very useful.

Interesting article he is  a coaches son and looks like he can grow some more.  He is showing some sincere interest by visiting. Hopefully we can close the deal with him.

Any chance he reclassifies back to a '16?

I really doubt it, but my hopes are often irrational.
