Winning depends upon building a team, not putting together the best menagerie of recruiting profiles.

I agree he most certainly did. He recruited some awesome representatives of MU. Many of whom grew up right before our eyes under his tutelage

Some sure did. And we love those guys.

He also recruited guys that should have never been anywhere near Marquette.

I don't think character things bothered Buzz. He felt that the kids just needed some love and direction in life. I think his heart was in the right place, but yeah its complicated. There's a more structured movement around this now with Marquette/Lovell taking a leadership position around Milwaukee, Oprah was here talking about it,  basically getting to the underlying trauma these kids have had to endure.  You don't set a girls hair on fire if you have a solid family life. If you haven't, I encourage everyone to take the ACE test (couple min) to see where they stand and understand what others have to go through. Lovell shocked everyone in the community when he announced he had a score of 5.

Harris was from a very sleepy suburb where nothing ever happens. Not exactly steve Taylor dodging bullets and trying to ignore gang recruitments.

Buzz Williams a modern day Jerry Tarkanian, I guess I can see that.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

What is the ACE test?

Here's Lovell talking about it...

Here's the test and some outcomes.

There's not really any talk about athletes and ace scores, but Lovell's talk and Buzz's "high-character" recruits sort of made the two ideas cross in my head.

I told everybody he set a girls hair on fire in class which is why he was kicked off the basketball team at his high school and everybody laughed at me and called me a liar. A few weeks later that news turns out to be true and everybody acted shocked.

When I was a freshman taking high school chemistry, Judy Sloat accidentally lit my hair on fire with a bunsen burner.

Actually, my hair just got charred a little.

At least she said it was an accident ...

Great title game, though I'm not sold on Liddell, don't think he gets away with what he does at the collegiate level. He won't be able to bully 6'3" wings at the next level.

Javon Freeman on the other hand, would have loved for Marquette to have taken a look at him. Seen him 3 times this season. Solid point guard and best finisher at the rim I've ever seen at the high school level.

Verballed to Arizona State.  Rumors are he is going to a prep school in Arizona starting next year.

Wth how do we lose that kid to ASU already?? What is he 15?

Actually he skipped 8th grade to start high school this year. So I would guess 14.

I have to think Bobby Hurley or someone on staff had an in with the family. Even still, no idea if that commitment will stick. They rarely do with kids that young, especially if they end up the top-10 types that Foster seems capable of becoming.

My guess is the Arizona prep school was also part of this.  Package deal.

Exactly. There's not much downside for a school to accept a really early verbal like this, but history shows the two will part ways before this is over.
DePaul found that out (again) when 2022 guard Amari Bailey, who committed last year as an 8th grader, recently renounced his commitment. Same happened to them about 10+ years ago with Cully Payne (who then committed to Alabama, changed his mind again and went to Iowa and then transferred to Loyola).

Lots of great younger talent in the lower grades of high school in WI. Foster, Johnson, Baldwin at the top. Any truth to the rumor that Jalen Johnson is going to a prep school in Florida next year (heard IMG academy)? Also, what do Baldwin's prospects look like? Is he also a potential 5* recruit?
