Building on this point, I found this interesting bit of knowledge. Who is the last guard coached by Roy Williams to go one and done?

Answer?

Trick question, it's never happened. In a 30 year career at two blue bloods Roy Williams has never had a guard go one and done. Now, he absolutely develops his guards and turns them into NBA players. And you get to play for championships at UNC (and go to fake classes!). So he brings a ton to the table but does not have a history of getting freshmen guards into the NBA.

I don't know Hagans, and I don't know what he's thinking about his future, but I assume the reclassification means he's looking to play right away and get to the NBA as soon as possible. If that's true, I'm sure Wojo will point out that historically UNC might not be the best place to go if you're looking to get to the NBA right away.
Great research, never heard that before you.  Thanks

Double edged sword. How many one and done guards has MU, not just wojo, ever produced? None since the seventies, if even then?

Not even then.  I think though that TAMU's point would be that ol' Roy has had many more guards who possess the type of talent to be able to do that.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Let's not forget that Wojo spent a lot of years in North Carolina recruiting against Roy Williams, so he knows how Roy operates.  He probably knows exactly what Roy's  pitch will be and how to counter it.  Same could be said for Roy re: Wojo.

For some weird reason I've always hated UNC even more than ND.

That's just kooky talk.   ND blows.

Let's pump the breaks a bit on Wojo circling the recruiting chess board with Ole Roy.  My guess is our ice cream truck is about as impactful as any potential familiarity.

After doing some more research, it appears UNC was at last night's game to watch Wheeler's EJ Montgomery, a 5 star 6-10 PF in 2018.  Whether they get involved with Hagans remains to be seen.

Not that UNC or NC State wouldn't take Hagans, but I believe this is correct and both were primarily there for EJ Montgomery.

Did they recruit the same guys regularly? I'm sure there was some local talent here and there, but those two schools are able to recruit nationally. I don't know how much stock I'd place in Wojo knowing how to win a guy over UNC just because he was an assistant at Duke. Hopefully he does, but this feels like a stretch.

We've known for a while that '19 target Matthew Hurt is a long shot, given that Coach K has been in Rochester a couple of times already.  By way of update, Bill Self was in town a couple days ago as well.

Local word says Duke is still the frontrunner.

If Hagans picks MU, I am calling it now:

2018-19 BIG EAST CHAMPS

Sounds like a 5 star Derrick Wilson.

Wojo already declared that on page 20 of his "Top 10 Reasons to Hire Me" PPT.

I would guess no. Wojo will target immediately eligible players first. Hagans, other players that decommit, and grad transfers.

This. I don't see him as an option unless Wojo knows we'll have 2 schollies instead of the current 1.

Top 100 pg decommits from Arizona. Seems like most of the schools on his list were west coast so not likely for MU, but someone to keep an eye on. Miller had to retract his salary offer maybe?

TAMU, Knower of Ball

The more uncommitted top 100 PGs the better the chance that MU can pick one of them up

Are any of the other unsigned guards on our radar now? The only one I see us having ever had any interest in is Courtney Ramey, who decommitted from Louisville in the fall. I'm not sure that was ever very serious, though. He looks like he could contribute a lot as a freshman.

I haven't seen anything that would give me hope, but I'd love to see Wojo throw his hat in the ring for Anfernee Simons. It sounds like he wants to go pro, but I haven't seen his name in any mock drafts. It's late in the game, but if Hagans doesn't work out, maybe a late push could get us in the running for Simons.

We were one of the first schools to reach out when Simons decommitted from Louisville. Never heard anything after that initial report, so guessing that interest wasn't reciprocated.
