I really get tired of all the snarky back and forth on this board and do my best to ignore it and move on and avoid piling on anyone.

The game was close because the officials kept it that way for 22ish minutes.  Marquette would have run away with it in the 1st half had they not called OMax and Oso for a cheap foul each.

How is that team even ranked, let alone as high as 19? They started the week 8-3 and their best wins are Michigan (N), Yale (H), and Duquesne (H). Ick. A 2OT loss to a mediocre MSU team and double-digit losses to Gonzaga and UCLA don't impress me either.

We might not quite get in, but "voters" are not a monolith. A few might have us in the 15-20 positions, many will not have us in at all. We'll see where the consensus puts us. I'm still thinking we squeak in (he said, hopefully).

Being ranked is not the most important thing in the world to me, but I (and plenty of others) do "care." It's a sign of progress and respect; plus it gets us on the TV scroll, which people (perhaps even recruits and their families) notice.

Of course, big picture, I do agree with the spirit of your second sentence.

Just keep playing well and improving, and the winning - and all the stuff that goes with winning - will take care of itself!

Being ranked does matter, but keep winning and they will continue to get more votes. It matters like Villanova winning 25 games almost every year or teams being ranked for years on end. A week or two means little, but being ranked is great for recruiting and exposure for the program.
