Our coach matters. He's played the game, experienced success, and most importantly relates well and connects with today's student athlete. Nothin' but seashells and balloons goin' uptown from here in our future with Shaka, aina?

How is that team even ranked, let alone as high as 19? They started the week 8-3 and their best wins are Michigan (N), Yale (H), and Duquesne (H). Ick. A 2OT loss to a mediocre MSU team and double-digit losses to Gonzaga and UCLA don't impress me either.

They started the season ranked #4, and while they took two early losses, neither Michigan State nor Gonzaga away from home are drop you from 4 to unranked losses. They fell 15, and despite winning ticked slowly downward thanks to less than impressive wins. They will be out tomorrow.

The Lens

Gary Parrish doesn't have us in and he's usually MU favorable, it doesn't take much from #mubb to get on his radar (probably some C-USA memories in his subconscious).  He does  mention us as a candidate for the 26th spot.

He has X 14 and UConn 3.  I think both of those are very fair.

I would not anticipate getting back in this week.   Win the next two and we will sneak back in but let's win!  The rest will happen!

There's a big gap between #19 Kentucky (439 votes) and #20 Auburn (237 votes), that's the likely ceiling of where we could end up. There are 15 teams that received more votes than us but less than Kentucky, here's how they did:

#20 Auburn (237 votes) W vs. Florida
#21 Mississippi State (215) L vs. Alabama
#22 New Mexico (147) W vs. Colorado State W @Wyoming
#22 Xavier (147) W @St. John's W vs. UConn
#24 West Virginia (126) L @Kansas State
#25 North Carolina (112) L @Pitt
ORV1 Charleston (102) W vs. Hampton W @Towson (but needed OT)
ORV2 Maryland (87) W vs. UMBC L @Michigan
ORV3 Memphis (74) W vs. South Florida L @Tulane
ORV4 Illinois (65) W vs Bethune Cookman
ORV5 Ohio State (59) W vs. Alabama A&M W @Northwestern
ORV6 Virginia Tech (57) L @Wake Forest
ORV6 Missouri (57) W vs. Kentucky
ORV8 San Diego State (39) W vs. Air Force W @UNLV
ORV9 Iowa State (19) W vs. Baylor
ORV10 Marquette (12): W vs. Seton Hall W @Villanova

Given all this and how voters tend to vote this time of year, we are:

Definitely Passing
Virginia Tech
Memphis
Maryland
North Carolina

Maybe Passing
Iowa State
San Diego State
Illinois
Charleston
West Virginia
Mississippi State

Definitely Not Passing
Missouri
Ohio State
Xavier
New Mexico
Auburn

We'd have to pass every definitely and every maybe in order sneak in at #25....and that's assuming that we don't get jumped by a team that had less votes last week (For example, I could see Providence picking up some votes.

marquette: 27-0
tower: others receving votes

Nope.  #1.   A 4 loss team at this point that started the year unranked?   Others receiving votes.

Yet to see marquette on a ballot other than Seth Davis--who has us 17
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Marquette disrespected at #32 in the AP. Providence also underwhelms at #33. UConn falls to #4; Xavier only advances to #18.

It's going to be hard to move up playing in the Big East this season.

Passed all 4 of the definitely pass, only passed 1 of the maybes (West Virginia). Got jumped by LSU and Kansas State so we only moved from ORV10 to ORV7. Beating SJU and Georgetown this week won't impress anyone so we will need a lot of help to get ranked before the UConn matchup.

#32 in votes for top 25, but it's possible a lot of voters have us at 26 or 27 since they only vote for 25 teams.

shoothoops

There are zero teams in the AP Top 25 with 4 losses. (MUBB has 4)

Baylor is a good win. Creighton is a solid net win but they are 8-6. No "bad" losses so far. But 3 of them were to similar level or worse teams.

There are six teams with 3 losses. Gonzaga, Indiana, Duke, Xavier, Baylor, Ohio State.

A bad loss would be like losing to SIU-Edwardsville

Marquette is # 33 in Coaches Poll.

The way in which the Providence game was lost is going to bother me.

The capriciousness of rankings - we're 1 MU made FT (or one miss PC FT) away from being what - like 15?
