Starr was often calling his own plays, not game managing Vince plays etc.

Most QBs back then called their own plays. Terry Bradshaw may not have been able to spell 'cat if you spotted him the 'c' and the 't', but he still called most of his plays.

The footage is easily available.  Seriously.  Don't join Lenny on another hill of lies.  Flip MSNBC back on and enjoy your morning joe.

You are an embarrassing little punk. If only you were even half as smart as you thought you are.

Your comments are way closer to Roqqet than they are to clever.

Well, that means a whole lot coming from a well respected level headed guy, like yourself.

Your insults only give me reassurance that I'm on the right track.

And that's how you know they're both wrong.  ;)

I know the dangers of comparing across eras, but saying he's one of the best QBs of all time is pretty rocky.  He can be unquestionably the among the best of a decade/era, but not an all time great.  They won a Super Bowl the year he threw 9 TDs to 17 INTs.  There isn't a single passing category he stacks up favorably against other all time greats...except wins.  Some of that isn't all his fault, but still.

If pitchers in the 50s-60s used to get shelled and one of the Cy Young winners in the 60s had a 4.5 ERA and 80 Ks, you could say he was one of the best pitchers of the era, but wouldn't call him one of the best of all time.  And that's not even a great comparison as baseball is more of an individual game than football.

I don't necessarily think he's Brock Purdy, but I think Starr is more Eli Manning than Peyton (and I don't consider Eli one of the best of all time)

Agree with all of this. I never said he was Brock Purdy. Only that, like Brock Purdy, his status was elevated by playing with a boatload of stars. Anyone who denies that sees the world through green and gold glasses.

Here's another guy who, unlike Hards, gets it.

You called Starr a "game manager." That's simply not accurate.

And no one claimed that his status wasn't elevated by playing with stars. That happens with every player.

You mean a sports blogger who is younger than me?  I thought since he didn't watch any games he couldn't know.  Hmmmm

Seems like another vibes based guy..  (110 followers btw)

Sportsmath (you know what math is, right?) is pretty good. #21, just behind Tony Romo, Len Dawson and Matt Ryan. Not as dynamic as those three (who are not all that dynamic, either) but because he was a superior game manager to them he's only a tick or two behind.

Yeah, I know since I linked them twice today.  I'm glad you're now interested in math rather than your eye test.

Always interested in math. Not surprised it matches what I watched with my own eyes. Thanks!

Totally unrelated to the Starr debate, are any Packer fans on here going to Brazil for the opener in two weeks?

Big benefit not going to Philly, getting extra time off, and the time change isn't bad at all. I'm really curious to see how the Eagles come out of the shoot. If Green Bay rolls them, could get interesting for Sirianni early.

I'm so sorry you threw in with Lenny and are now stuck.  A real adult would just say they were wrong.

Bart Starr had the WORST SEASON EVER for a QB who won the Super Bowl. 7 TDs, 19 INTs and a QB rating of 64. But he was never a game manager in large part carried by the stars who surrounded him. Sure .

You mean the year after he won MVP, had a bunch of minor injuries that caused him to miss multiple starts, but came back to win both the Ice Bowl on an epic final drive and Super Bowl II where he was MVP. Sure.

But yeah...some blogger (who was too young to see him play) calls him a game manager and you feel vindicated.

Why you come back to subject yourself to continued embarrassment is beyond me.

Going scorched earth over Bart Starr.   So scoopie.

You do it multiple times every single day in multiple topics, but, yeah you're the arbiter of who might be embarrassing himself. Do you ever look in the mirror? Your lack of self awareness is absolutely stunning.

Glad you finally wove the white flag on the topic at hand. I guess you got tired of the constant goalpost shifting.
