They're as happy as we are that Mr. Dull is gone.

CountryRoads

I just saw the post. For some reason they weren't tagged but Oso, Dexter, and Perez were also at the workout. Dawson notably missing.

Bupkis or Bupkes is an all time great word.
It is even better when said in person .

The number of players with the coaches is limited in off season workouts.

Could just be a numbers thing.

Or, the missing guys could be gone

Friday was no class. University Holiday.

Yep.  It is quite possible that the guys who had 100% online classes went home.  Remember when Shaka said at the introductory press conference that he was hopping on a plane to visit the players that weren't on campus?
Have some patience, FFS.

Ha!  Which is correct Lenny?

Honestly don't know. I've always used "bupkus" but could very well be wrong. Or maybe there is no right or wrong.

From grammarist.com:

Bupkis means absolutely nothing. It comes from the Yiddish bobkes, meaning nonsense or nothing, and it emerged in English during the early 20th century. It began as North American Jewish slang, but it's now used more broadly, often for humorous effect.1

The word is sometimes spelled bupkes, bubkiss, and bubkes (and there might be other spellings we're missing). Dictionaries differ on the matter; for instance, the Oxford English Dictionary lists bupkis, the American Heritage Dictionary lists bupkis as the primary spelling and bupkes as the secondary one,2 and Merriam-Webster lists bubkes as the primary spelling.3 Our Microsoft Word spell check approves of none of them. But we're going with bupkis because it's by far the most common spelling on the web and in 21st-century books.

I have only known it as "bupkis" ... and I am one of the 7 born-and-raised Jews to have ever attended Marquette. Plus, my Uncle Moishe, who was truly a mensch, spoke and wrote yiddish all the time. Mishpacha ... can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em? Nu?

Then again, despite my lineage maybe I don't know bupkis about this!

So in other words we've got Bupkis other than it was taken from the Yiddish Bobkes?  It's apparently North American Jewish slang?  Does Yiddish use the Hebrew alphabet?  Whatever it is it's the perfect description of getting  nothing.   I've been told by one of my Jewish friends that I am Shpilkes??  WTF?

MU82

Oy, what a conversation!

Muggs, "shpilkes" usually refers to somebody who is often (or always) nervous and edgy, though, like many of these words/phrases that have gone kinda mainstream, it has developed multiple meanings.

Yiddish does use the Hebrew alphabet, more or less, but there are some differences - just as there are differences between the Hebrew spoken by Sephardi and Ashkenazi Jews.

And of course, these days, most people who use Yiddish words now use them in English, as we have here in this thread, nu?

I'm not nervous!!  Just a little anxious about stuff.  What I like about Yiddish is you can sort of guess the meaning of the word by the sound of the word.  It's very expressive.  The language is an amalgamation of many but it works.

What is a dead period? During a dead period a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high schools. Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period.
