So in other words we've got Bupkis other than it was taken from the Yiddish Bobkes?  It's apparently North American Jewish slang?  Does Yiddish use the Hebrew alphabet?  Whatever it is it's the perfect description of getting  nothing.   I've been told by one of my Jewish friends that I am Shpilkes??  WTF?

Yiddish does use the Hebrew alphabet, more or less, but there are some differences - just as there are differences between the Hebrew spoken by Sephardi and Ashkenazi Jews.

And of course, these days, most people who use Yiddish words now use them in English, as we have here in this thread, nu?

I'm not nervous!!  Just a little anxious about stuff.  What I like about Yiddish is you can sort of guess the meaning of the word by the sound of the word.  It's very expressive.  The language is an amalgamation of many but it works.

What is a dead period? Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period.
