I'm confused. So Jamal was not recruited/offered a scholarship by the Oakland coach. He just transferred?

The dead period is for high school recruits. Not transfers. Transfers can be contacted once their name enters the transfer portal.

Jamal is a transfer, not a "college bound student athlete."  As soon as he entered the transfer portal he could be contacted by other coaches.  I believe he could have visited the campus as well.

So incoming freshman who have asked to be released from their LOIs or are reconsidering their verbal commitments cannot be contacted until June, but those in the portal can be "recruited" now. I guess if Shaka is running practice he is confident most of the players are staying and can wait until June to contact recruits; otherwise he would be busy contacting transfers now to fill 1 or 2 spots, no?

...not to mention hiring his staff. Hope we hear something this week or next on all fronts.

He can't meet them face to face.  He can contact them.

He and his staff have been busy contacting transfers (see the list of transfers I put together in Recruiting thread).

He Tweeted about it tho

@Dawson23lee

At practice, no balloons  >:(. Need to think...

How do the twitter decipherers decode this tweet?
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Is he insinuating there were seashells, but no balloons?

Yeah, no kidding.  Wojo used to pop balloons for turnovers in practice.  The Tweet clearly never actually happened.  People are just getting internet trolled.

I try!

On a different note a buddy just texted me that Shaka is on with Jim Rome today (about 20 min ago so probably over) - something to search youtube for later today

I like it. I think the best coaches emphasize concepts rather than specific plays. I think one of Wojo's weakness was overcomplicating the game rather than simplifying it for the players.

Has Dawson Garcia publicly stated/tweeted that he is staying at Marquette?

Hasn't even privately stated it to me.

Doubtful he’s even whispered it in anyone’s ear yet either.

No closest info weve had was someone who talked to his HS coach that said he'd be surprised if he left MU.

I wonder if we will ever have a formal 'recommitment' comment from Dawson. Might just be that he doesn't enter the portal and people start reporting seeing him walking into the Al.

After all, that's how we usually find out some player is in a walking boot.  ;D

Looking at his Instagram story he appears to be working out in Minnesota in his MU gear.

Guessing (hoping?) he tests the waters to get feedback but returns.

I'd be fascinated to hear how players like Dawson sort through feedback. Every single school that talks to him will say: "It's like a family here. We're going to make you the centerpiece. We're one step from the Final 4 and you can take us there. We're going to get you to the NBA." Is anyone saying something different?

I had assumed we were talking about NBA draft feedback, not college shopping.
