Carolyn Keiger is out at Penn State. More proof the grass isn't always greener elsewhere...
Wasn't it 2 or 3 times greener per year?

EDIT: i didn't realize she was at PSU for seven years

I thought she was going to be out at Penn State two years ago and joked she could come back to MU when Duffy left.  Surprised she lasted 7 years there.

Forbes and Vice make first team BE, Volker makes the second team and Forbes is named to the all defensive BE team.

They do have a 10 person first team which seems like a lot.  9 of the 10 were unanimous selections.

It's been fun to listen to former MU player Chloe Marotta calling some of the girls high school tournament state games.  And she's gotten to do it with her sister for a couple games.

Marquette isn't in the WBIT (NCAA run version of the NIT).  I'm guessing they turned down a bid as sub .500 Wisconsin made it and Seton Hall and St. John's are in it.

They have a ton of seniors so it could be a playing in a tournament doesn't help much for the future.  Or it could be a lot more than that.

I'm very curious what is being used to determine who is invited to the WBIT.

It makes zero sense to me to invite a 13-17 Wisconsin team with an 85 NET who had lost 10 straight games over a team like Ball State - much better NET and record.  Ball State's Coach tweeted about how they were snubbed by the WBIT - https://x.com/BallStateWBB/status/2033647159887708214?s=20

There is also the WNIT tournament but you don't have to pay for travel in the WBIT while you do in the WNIT.  So having the NCAA pay for travel for the WBIT is more appealing and the WBIT is supposed to be the more prestigious tournament.

I still suspect Marquette was invited and turned it down but that's just a guess - no idea really.

Former Marquette coach Megan Duffy continues the trend she started at MU - losing in her first ncaa tourney game.  She's now 0-4 in the ncaa tournament.

Charia Smoth announced on instagram she is leaving MU.

Lee Volker will be in the 3 point contest at the men's final 4.

UCONN is the last Big East Women's team standing after Villanova lost in their first round NCAA tournament game and Seton Hall and St. John's lost in their first WBIT game.  St. John's lost 74-26 to Columbia - yikes!

Head Coach Kristy Curry leaves Alabama for South Florida.

Reported slight salary bump, and triple the roster construction resources. Bama has the lowest WBB budget in the SEC. (Northam)

Carla Berube to Northwestern. It's a big get for Northwestern. She has been mentioned for some big jobs the past few years:

Maybe she can go there and continue not winning NCAA tourney games.

Alabama doesn't seem like they provide much support for women's bball.

They don't financially support Women's BB compared to their peers.

Alabama hired Pauline Love which makes sense. Alabama and Florida were two of the lowest budgets in the SEC. Love is a former Bama assistant, who also spent time at Oklahoma and Arkansas. She will likely be making less than Curry, who left for South Florida.

After spending 2 seasons with Iowa State, former Marquette guard Kenzie Hare, is in the transfer Portal.

Kenzie had a hip injury 10 games into her Junior season, and she Medically Redshirted that season. She started 31 of 32 games this season.

It's better than not going to the NCAA Tourney at all.

Really sad.  Amazingly he's only 63. (He was 28! when he started at MU). He basically said: My wife toook a great job at Stanford, I was going to stay home, raise our son (6) and support her.  Now he's in hospice.  Way too young.

If you look at his timeline with MU...he took over for a Nun.  Sr. Maria Pares, before her, Tat Shiely was coaching Volleyball and Basketball.  Jim really brought MUWBB into modern times and recruited some of our all time greats.

Far too young.

At MU, Jim inherited a couple of a good players, and, he was able to stack back to back recruiting classes when he first arrived. It's that example of an enthusiastic new head coach that is quick to turn around or rebuild, but he was unable to sustain it.

The recruiting wasn't as strong after the initial classes. He learned a few lessons about leaving, and about sustaining success when he was at Dayton. He definitely elevated MU WBB by a lot, without a lot resources.

Yes, 28. I'm not sure Jim's off of the court approach back then, would have faired as well in the modern era.
