I am sure my entire house could fit into MUFINY's rumpus room.

I maintain a pretty small house , go by the theory of having the lowest price in a good neighborhood. property taxes are crazy here , mine are over 25,000. I like staying liquid and having cash and securities. When the kids went to school I took over the rumpus room and made it into a man cave where I do all my scoop posting etc

My wife and I would like to downsize...but in our town, everything in the neighborhoods we like is HUGE.  So we sit around a mostly empty house, but love the neighborhood and the parts of the house where we spend most of our time (my wife in her renovated kitchen, me in my study, both in the family room).  We probably won't downsize unless and until we move to another town, or our kids haul us off to some sort of assisted living.  (Hoping the latter is still 25-30 years away....)

They're building newer houses WAY too big these days....
