"The Awful Reign of the Red Delicious"

https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2014/09/the-evil-reign-of-the-red-delicious/379892/

"His words contain the paradox of the Red Delicious: alluring yet undesirable, the most produced and arguably the least popular apple in the United States. It lurks in desolation. Bumped around the bottom of lunch bags as schoolchildren rummage for chips or shrink-wrapped Rice Krispies treats. Waiting by the last bruised banana in a roadside gas station, the only produce for miles. Left untouched on hospital trays, forlorn in the fruit bowl at hotel breakfast buffets, bereft in nests of gift-basket raffia."

An apple a day keeps the doctor away. Laughter is the best medicine. Scoop is often funnier than insightful. This takes the apple cheese cake.

Speaking of ciders (Redd's Apple), let's get to the core to the of issue: Week day drinking, yeah or nay?

And it seems whenever you find fruit in an airport, it's a red delicious apple....   :'(

Perhaps, but the story fails to tell you how many are thriving.

Crispin is the only cider I've found that doesn't lead to gut-rot.  Has more of a wine profile than the others which I find way too sugary.
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.

I'm a huge cider drinker... Fun fact: Ciders are technically a wine because it is made from a fruit. So you're not wrong, it definitely has a wine profile!

Big fan of the Crispin Pear Cider.

Agreed.  I find Pacific Pear and Brut to be their best offerings.   Not to diminish their Honey Crisp given that its namesake is the king of all apples to those who aren't damned.

While at the store this morning buying Braeburn apples, I saw a product called a Grapple.  It is billed as a grape flavored apple.

It sounds undesirable to me.  Any experience out there?

Sounds kinda strange.  If I want something that tastes like grapes...I usually buy grapes.

This sounds similar to the Crapple (cranberry flavored apple) which didn't really take off for some reason...

I was never a fan of crappie.  Is it the Red Delicious of pan fish?

I hope we can all agree that Red Delicious are the worst. Who buys those tasteless things?

Agree. Why do people buy?  Not tasty.

I think it's two main factors: familiarity and price.

Years ago, there were far fewer varieties available in our local supermarket, but red delicious was always there.  I'm betting that some people just buy them because that's what they know.  Kinda reminds me of my father-in-law, who long claimed to hate many ethnic foods, like Thai and Indian. When I asked him why he hated them his response was something like "I heard they were too spicy." He had obviously never tried either. We took him out to try both, and after initial reluctance, he discovered he likes both.  :)

And cost - at least where I live, other varieties also tend to be pricier. I'm guessing people who look at price above all tend to gravitate toward red delicious.

There are probably a few people who have tried and could afford a number of varieties and actually prefer a red delicious, but I find that hard to fathom...
