ESPN is reportedly laying off about 100 employees, including former athletes-turned-broadcasters Trent Dilfer, Len Elmore and Danny Kanell, in a purge designed to focus the sports network on a more digital future.

The cuts will trim ESPN's stable of on-air talent and writers by about 10 percent.

Life insurance is pretty much useless once you get to a point where you have more than enough assets to support your family if you die. Other than a policy provided by my employer, I let mine lapse about ten years ago because current retirement accounts, savings and other assets are more than enough for my wife if I die (or me if she dies). Our daughters are both out of school and self-supporting, so they aren't a factor, other than for inheritance ('death bonus') purposes.

If Trebek had life insurance at his age, he wasn't making very sound financial decisions IMO....

Pronunciation pet peeve of the day: people who say 'nu - kya - lur' instead of 'nuclear'.

I just don't get it. It would be one thing if they didn't know how it's supposed to be pronounced, but several high-ranking and highly educated people regularly mispronounced the word. A recent POTUS; a 'national security expert' I saw interviewed the other day. It isn't a regional accent or dialect thing - I have heard it from people with a Boston twang and a strong southern drawl. And it isn't as though you couldn't train yourself. I can very easily pronounce it incorrectly if I make the effort; why can't they intentionally pronounce it correctly?
