Actually, Las Vegas is a great place to fly into if you are going to do an Out West vacation like the Grand Canyon or Zion National Park.

But that's usually a one-and-done type of thing.  Next time, leave the crumb crunchers at home and have some real fun.

chick is correct.  We flew into Phoenix for Thanksgiving, went to the Grand Canyon, then had a choice of driving back to PHX or Vegas to fly back.  At first we were going to fly out at 8pm, but I found a flight the next morning and we decided to stay overnight, show the kids 6 hours of Vegas. 

Funny, I remember my 10 year old summarizing the trip, "Dad, there sure is a lot of inappropriate things in Vegas."

I've never visited Las Vegas yet.  My kids have watched the Ocean's movies like 20 times each and if they were ever in Vegas I'd be worried they're plotting something else related to the casinos.

Been to Vegas once. Meh. The best thing I saw was an Ansel Adams exhibit at the Bellagio gallery. Decent restaurants, but no better than what I could find in Chicago or even Milwaukee or Minneapolis if I needed to. Not into the gambling or heavy drinking thing, and being surrounded by it constantly (and the associated chaos) got old very quickly.

Still, I think it's one of those places in the United States that everyone should see once if they can. And I can understand why people might want to live there. Mild climate, low cost of living and easy to find nice housing far from the strip. Not on my "retirement possibilities" list, but I can see why it makes it for some.

Speaking of which, where y'all thinking about retiring? I still have a few years, but I love the Midwest. Maybe stay in Rochester or move to Minneapolis, or possibly even back to Milwaukee. If I can afford the snowbird thing, Scottsdale would be my number one choice.

Virginia Beach. 

Not as cold as Wisconsin, not as hot as Florida, and direct flights to Chicago, NY and Florida. Wake up in the morning to the sound of the ocean.  Just added an elevator to our 3 story house to be prepared down road.

So, who's stuck handing out candy, like me?

My wife hands out the candy while I walk around the neighborhood telling everybody that our house is handing out red delicious apples.

We're giving out full-size candy bars.

We usually don't get too many trick-or-treaters because we are in a cul-de-sac that isn't very efficient to go around from a trick-or-treating standpoint, so we reward the kids that make the effort.

We gave out full bars this year.  Bought 60 bars and got a 60 pack of Rice Krispie Snacks on backup since weather was relatively warm this year.  Worst TorT show since we bought the house in 2010.  Counted 48 kids.  And that includes the two kids who always go through twice in different costumes.

Now I have a dozen candy bars and a box of RK snacks that I sure as hell ain't eating.

My sister and her husband lived in Vegas and used to have a vacation home near St George.  I was only there once, but the whole area was beautiful.
