Quit flyin' Spirit den, hey?

Spirit's gate at MSP is actually closer to the terminal than both UAL and AA.
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I am not a travel snob by any means {I am a major Southwest fan girl, for example}, but I would rather walk to my destination than fly Spirit again.
Have some patience, FFS.

My only experience flying Spirit was fantastic.  Sadly, I've talked to enough people to know that I should not expect that to be the case if I ever fly Spirit again.  I'm not going to avoid them, but my expectations are in check.

I've only had good Spirit experiences, but I'm a logical human being. I know what I am paying for.

I did see boobs on Spirit flight 3 years ago on the way to Vegas, so they got that going for them.

Yeah but were they good boobs?  Or typical "Midwest to Vegas for a Vacation" type boobs.

In fairness, the majority of people who go to Vegas for a vacation are boobs.

There hasn't been a decent US airline since the demise of Midwest Express.

If you have a second home somewhere, that's not exactly what I'd call "vacation."  Same goes for a night at Sybaris in the Quon.

Semantics, perhaps, but I'm speaking more along the lines of "hey, I work really hard for 51 weeks out of the year, so I'm going to spend the only vacation I get relaxing in Vegas" not "let's head to the condo in Vegas next weekend" or "the girls and I are going to take a few days off work and head to Vegas."

Exactly.  Vegas Second Home boobs are another thing entirely.

That's because the common-folk have shown no desire to base their purchasing decisions on anything but price with a slight nod to convenience.  (Me included.)

But the problem with Spirit is that their price only looks lower than everybody else.  Start adding in all of the extras, like your carry-on bag, your seat price, your beverage, and so forth, and the flight costs the same as many others (more, maybe, if you forgot to pay for your carry-on before you get to the airport).  It frustrates me when these flights always come up as the "low cost carrier" in our travel and expense program because the costs they show simply aren't comparable.  Plus, like many Twin Cities residents who travel a lot on business, I have considerable status at Delta.  It's hard to justify choosing Spirit when for $50 more (all-in) you can get upgraded regularly.

Agreed. If Spirit, when all is said and done, truly was cheaper than legacy airlines, maybe I would give the Greyhound of the Skies a chance. But why pay the same or more for such an experience?

I was kinda surprised while booking a flight recently that even American charges to check luggage nowadays.

Now, I'm certainly team carry on only if possible, even in the case where checked bags are free. But has that always been the norm?

I think airlines started charging for checked bags about 10-15 years ago.

They weren't bad, but judging from the clothed versions we expected better.

How much did Spirit charge you to look at those boobs?

$20 for the first view, $5 for each subsequent showing.

Yep. Although Spirit and some other nickel and dime carriers started earlier, American was the first legacy carrier to charge a checked baggage fee in 2008.

I guess I've only flown domestic like once over the past decade so that makes sense.

So used to international travel nowadays.

Those are the only flights the airlines seem to care about anymore.
