Ever have dinner and drinks with the current wife/girlfriend and get home later that night, you can't sleep. your depressed and you text that ex and tell how much you miss her?
You might want to ask chicos this

Losing out on Grimes would certainly be a disappointment but not a shock. However, I can't stand the view of "well at least we were in the discussion with KU and UK."

A loss of a recruit is more than not getting that player, it is the opportunity cost of the player you might have been able to get. Now I have to believe the staff truly thought/thinks Grimes was/is realistic, but finishing second is never a good thing no matter who you lose to.

At least we don't need to worry about which player is gonna be cut at the end of this year.

Honestly the kid probably looked at the weather in mke the last couple days and realized that fall isn't 65 and sunny every day in Wisconsin

I'm kinda feeling a "yet" in this sentence. Hope I'm wrong.

So, officially eliminated? 4th place makes me feel like we were never really in it.

If we were Texas or tamu I'd feel like that but us being a random private school extremely far away from home makes me feel like we had at least a shot and the kid wasn't going to gamble on such a new coach. But hey it's all speculation

More likely that he looked at the loads of kids that Kentucky puts into the NBA every single season and figured that's better than Marquette can do, looked at Kansas and sees the NBA talent everywhere on the court plus the family connection to the school, and looked at Texas being close enough to home plus loading itself up with NBA talent as well and thought there were 3 better options than MU.

We were definitely in it.  4th or 2nd is really all the same.  Either he comes or he doesn't.  Being the last team to be eliminated means nothing.

Maybe, but being eliminated first really emphasizes the "which of these doesn't belong" notion that most college basketball fans/experts/whatever felt about QG's recruitment. Very disappointing.

Not true in this case.  Remember, we went after Grimes WITH A FULL RECRUITING CLASS already for 2018.  It is not about who we didn't go after and get, it's about who might not leave that would have if Grimes comes aboard.  We could lose one of our freshmen who maybe doesn't look like he has it all put together this year but who will play like an all-big East player when he's a junior.

As I said before, I'm thrilled with our team next year.  QG would be a bonus.  But you can't lose something you never really had.  Next man up!

(Cheesy is currently on the phone imploring Wojo to get over to Whitnall and sign up his boy.)

(A) It isn't over yet.    Wait until the announcement.
(B) MU is going to be really good in 18-19 regardless.  Grimes will make us better.
(C)Backstory?   If he goes elsewhere, MU will have lost out on a blue chip to a blue blood.    There is no story.

I'm holding out for final announcement. But the longer it was from his visit, the less excited I've become. 2018-19 is gonna be good if not great regardless.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

No news on the Ramey front either. Likely set for next year now.

fjm

Is MU not scheduled to see grimes anymore? I thought we were visiting him this week or next?

If we miss out, bummer, if we get him great!
But either way, we are killing it on the recruiting trail and just getting this far is great.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Why are we assuming we are out for Grimes? UK cancelled their in home with him yesterday. That would seem to indicate that they are the school that was eliminated.

Still not seeing anything that actually indicates we were eliminated other than Scoop speculation. I suppose unfollowing Wojo, but reports that Kentucky skipped the in home and went to see Herro instead could be just as telling as to what "3" meant. My guess is Kansas, but either way I imagine we'll know concretely in the next few days.

dw3dw3dw3

Stan isn't following him anymore either. It's over, on to the next one.

So... someone enlighten me on why we wouldn't go after Herro. I get that we wouldn't touch him while the whole QG thing was playing out and the scholarships were full. I believe Freeport has alluded to some things, but it seems he definitely is looking at some different type of options. It's not everyday that a top 40 guard is available who lives within 15 miles of campus. Are the Hausers not big fans? There has to be more than a demanding dad and a kid who wants to go to the NBA.

We weren't the 1st eliminated, there were 300+ then Baylor, TAMU and AZ before MU

milwaukee ex-pat

FWIW this fan is not overly disappointed. I followed the G. Elliot recruitment and was excited for him to play the QG role as a sophomore.  Sophomore Elliot I think would be comparable with frosh QG - he seems to have a really high ceiling and an awesome defensive, aggressive attitude.  Definitely would not keep recruiting -
sends a bad message to current team IMO.  We'll see I guess...

I for one hope Wojo takes the call.

BM1090

I still think it will be Kansas, but everyone is overreacting and I don't believe we've actually been eliminated.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

If we end up being out of the QG sweepstakes, I don't think we will go after Herro. I think Wojo's goal is to secure another PG. I'd guess that Ramey would be the primary target, plus we are in on some quality 2019 PGs.

QG no longer following Wojo and Stan no longer following QG sure isn't the best of signs. He hasn't come out and said I am not going to MU but close to it.
