Everyone here wants Grimes.  I hope like hell be picks Marquette.  But, if he doesn't, the staff certainly did everything they could to land him, and fortunately, Marquette looks to be in fantastic shape for the future regardless.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

That meeting could be anything from a last ditch effort to locking down the commitment.

As for the tweets, I think it's all about keeping up the suspense for their announcement. They don't want to give a hint where they may be going. Wasn't Diamond Stone retweeting Badger fans up until his commitment?

The NBA draft?

Yes, the NBA Draft. You should know by the proliferation of walking boots that the entire team has bone spurs.

Where's Big Daddy? He said he was going to post about how the visit went and Grimes' timeline. Then i thought he jokingly said he was going to withhold the info because someone pocked fun at him. was he serious, did someone actually offend him?

Galway Eagle

It is possible that he wasn't actually going to post that info and he was sarcastically mad and sarcastically saying he was going to post information when he had never had any intention of doing so

Agree that the staff, win or lose, put forth a great effort. But IMO only a win here = "fantastic" shape in the near/medium future. A loss = solid shape.

I hope that is the case.

However, we don't know the toll this takes on a coaching staff. Do they say "hey, this was a long shot anyways" or do they say (as others have said before) "we can't compete with blue bloods here at MU. The struggle is real."

That is why this particular recruit could be the cornerstone in Wojos recruiting legacy, and tenure for that matter.
Will we survive without QG if he goes elsewhere? Of course, but to get him would potentially pave roads to other 5 stars from out of state who right now don't even know that MU is in Wisconsin.

Even if I still don't love the word "loss" in this context, I certainly agree with what you say here.

Self is a heck of a recruiter. He brought a TON of talent to Illinois. Obviously, I'd love to see Wojo beat him mano-a-mano!

There are lots of schools that are very successful getting few or no 5 star recruits.

Define successful though. If we want to see MU become elite again, 5* out of state recruits help greatly towards that goal. If however, we are satisfied with sweet 16 tourney runs, "every once in awhile", then yes, that can be considered "successful" Just all depends on each fans interpretation of successful and what he wants to see from the program. I know what Wojo's goals are.

Grimes also just went on a retweeting spree of all the accounts that wrote that the KU staff is visiting him. On one hand this makes me feel like KU is afraid of us, on the other, much more depressing hand, it kind of feels like the visit that Dotson had before committing a few weeks ago.

Maybe he just wants the world to know KU wanted him bad but he went to MU because it fit him better

If the staff had more than a first round exit to their name I could understand the frustrations but this staff hasn't earned the right to be frustrated the way Crean was with losing Shumpert or Buzz with losing Matthews.

I want to believe we are getting Grimes as much as anyone, but this one is over in my mind.  I'm not usually one for interpreting a kid's tweets, but this is pretty simple.  Nothing after the MU visit, then a bunch of retweets on Kansas.  Even without Grimes, this team is in great shape.

wadesworld

Given that Grimes has been quoted as saying the Kansas staff has told him he needs to come to Kansas, they need him at Kansas, and seemingly really pushed him to commit, my guess is whether the last visit was to Texas, Kentucky, or Marquette they were probably going to show up on his doorstep the next day and really try to push the, "Now that all of your visits are done, can we hear that you're ready to commit?"  I don't think it says anything about where any of the schools on his list stand, just says they're pushing for him to commit to them ASAP.

I'm also not sold on Wojo getting one 5 star recruit and having the doors blown open to many more in the future as a result.  I don't think blue chip recruits in the class of 2019 will look at MU and say, "Hey, Wojo got Grimes out of Texas, I can go there now too!"

He retweeted all of the Tweets that mentioned his upcoming visits when he was approaching an official visit, he Tweeted the exact same things leading up to his official visits just with the different cities and schools he was visiting, and he Tweeted nothing about his visits after them.  He was retweeting other peoples' Tweets about in home visits with MU when MU was flying down there every week.  It means nothing.

Having said that, I think he winds up at Kansas.  But I don't think he's ready to commit anywhere right now.  I think it'll be another month and he'll retweet some stuff about MU visits in between now and then.

I think the theory is that if grimes were to come he'd be gone to the NBA in no time and Wojo can begin to have that "I develop 5 star talent" line to help compete with self and cal

No hurt feelings here.  Over seas right now. Will update later

Visit went great

I think he will commit in fall signing.   Nov 9????

Announment expected in ~10 days.

I like our odds.

Ps.   Joey says he is now considering.  De committing because he is worried he won't get enough playing time
