Isaiah Jackson 2020 has an offer
https://twitter.com/ijackson22/status/880893915729207296

We seem to have been the first Big Boy to offer Isaiah Jackson (after Oakland and Southern Miss).
Since has picked up offers from Tulsa, USC Trojans, VCU, and getting interest from Iowa, Mich., and Mich. St.

Mike, I wouldn't hold losing out on QG against Wojo. In fact I applaud him for  going so hard after him and making his final 5.

That said, my point is that a player of his stature can make a much bigger difference to a program like ours than he would to one like Kentucky. Ergo, he'll ultimately be a bigger win or loss (IMO) for our PROGRAM than for the other 4 on his list.

Ah, I understand what you're saying now, Lenny, and I mostly agree. I still think it's unnecessary to use the word "lose," because we literally have nothing to lose here. QC isn't "ours," we aren't the frontrunner, and we probably aren't in the top 3 or 4. I just don't see it as a loss at all, yet you repeatedly used "lose" and "loss" in previous posts. But yes, I agree that QC probably would have a bigger impact for us than he would for the others.

Of course, the same could be said of MOST recruits.

True, Mike - but MOST of the guys we recruit aren't anywhere near as highly ranked as QG.

Losing out on a Haanif Cheatham or a Sacar Anim or a Sam Hauser is a loss, a disappointment. When you give a real offer to a young man the coach is hoping "yes" is the answer - but most of the guys you offer can be replaced by someone you think is almost as good. Not the case with QG.

Okay guys, did the quick update. Anything else?

Pardon the post dating.  I figured it might be an 'Eng move' and that it'll cause Grimes to commit on the 14th!

Ah, but Sam would have felt more like a loss because we had a better chance to get him. Indeed, we were the leader from the get-go - he was "ours to lose"!

I guess that's where I'm coming from. I just don't think the word "lose" needs to be part of the QC discussion. And I don't think excluding that word means anybody is accepting defeat, just being realistic.

Agree to disagree Mike. When we lose to Villanova (even though we are "supposed to") it's still a loss. And when it stops feeling like a loss, that's bad news - means we're kind of OK with it. Same with recruiting battles - winning the ones you're "supposed to" only get you so far - winning one you're not supposed to can be a program changer. So if you're OK with being a program that is in the 20-50 range, maybe losing QG isn't a "loss". If you aim higher (as Wojo does, or he wouldn't be after Grimes) it would be a big one.

If it wasn't a layover then it seems pretty stupid to fly into Chicago. By the time you're through security and get off the plane through the airport and on a car you could've driven from Mitchell to ohare

I've never flown on a private jet before so I might be way off base here, but I have a feeling when you're flying private you aren't stopping for layovers too often, especially not when it's between Wisconsin, Indiana, and Texas.  The only reason I can imagine having a "layover" while flying private would be if it's a distance that you need to refuel along the way.

I don't think that it's a layover for the coaches because of what I said above, but layovers in Chicago are not at all uncommon when flying to/from Milwaukee.

Were you a fan in the 70s? Honest question. I didn't start being a fan of Mu until late 90s when I attended. Trying to imagine myself in his shoes. They just sent 4 guys to the NBA this year and he's the highest rated recruit they're pursuing for 2018. Nationally televised games, tradition, NBA connections, etc. i don't think you can argue the stage presence of Kansas & MU. If he has a clear path to start with Kansas as a freshman I don't see how you say no. Objectively speaking.

Private jets are awesome.  No security.  No hassle.  You literally can be off the plane and in a car within a minute of landing, and then back on the plane within a minute of getting back to the airport.

Earlier - 1966 was my freshman year. But I agree with you that the landscape has changed and that "all things being equal" its tough for MU to compete with Kansas for recruits. Maybe Wojo's take on this is that not all things are equal. No matter what 82 and others say, he thinks QG is enough of a real possibility for us that he's throwing the book at him in terms of time, effort and resources. He wouldn't do that if he thought we were a long shot. I'm sure he'll view it as a big loss if we don't land QG - so will I.
