You can just say "upside" or "potential."

No, he doesn't quite have a very big upside yet.  There is the potential for it, though.  Duh.

The other players you listed are all very good. However, the case for Elliot is the strongest in my view.  He will be coming in with two Detroit guys who he is very close to, and overall we will have a very strong and balanced class of freshman. In addition he gives us speed , quickness and a defensive type  presence we are lacking. The three Detroit guys would be able to give a very long and quick look to balance with our great shooters. I think Elliot has very big upside potential. Cooley sees him as another Kris Dunn which is why he is keen on him as well.

You talk with Cooley on a regular basis or just run into him at the airport?  Does he know that discussing Elliott with you is a violation?

I think he is better than great; he is good.

You think Heldt would be third man at the 5? umm... after the way he ended the year I think most would disagree

Well, the way he ENDED the year was looking totally lost and outclassed against South Carolina. Pretty much every moment he was on the floor, he was our worst player on the floor.

The 7-8 games before that, he surprised most folks here with how relatively well he played.

I'm an optimist and I like to think the latter is the Heldt we'll see in 2017-18 after having gained some confidence this season and then having an offseason to work on his game and his strength.

But he really does still have to show he can consistently be a 20+ mpg BE center.

So now that we have Elliot commitment who is the next priority ?

Should be based on neck size I would think
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

A very high quality grad transfer or two - preferably Koulachev or Freeman. If we try to snag another multiple year scholarship player it needs to be a PG. If not, we should have enough scholarships to bring in Joey and a PG next year.

Really the only known is Joey Hauser, but I'd guess we'll get a clearer idea based on transfers and names that come up in the next week.

2018 target Torrence Watson talks recruiting, includes Marquette.

In video he says he would like to visit Marquette this Spring for the first time. He mentions Wojo and Chris (both being from St. Louis) recruiting him from Marquette. He wants to take visits in August, and make a decision prior to his Senior season.

He had a breakout Junior season, state runner up small schools in MO. Plays with Ramey Jets United AAU.

His list includes Marquette, Vandy, SLU, Mizzou, Butler, Creighton, Iowa St., West Virginia.

Wojo is from St. Louis?  I did not know that.  Thank you prephoops.com!
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Any word on ANY other Frosh?  I know some kids have been let out of their NLIs with coaches leaving.  We had been discussing Jemarl Baker.  Anybody hear anything on that front?

The only freshman I could see the staff interested in for this year would be if a high quality point guard were available due to a coaching change, but with Howard being only a freshman this year that might be a tough sell.

I'm thinking Koulechov.

I think we should petition that Howard's freshman year NLI was not enforceable as he was only 17 when he committed, therefore he should still be a freshman. It worked in Liar Liar

I believe the 'both' in this instance was referring to Watson and coach Chris Carrawell.  Admittedly poorly phrased, but still accurate.
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.

*waits for Big Daddy name change*

He changed it to Big Daddy Young Frankenstein.  So, I'm hoping for Egor soon.

Big Daddy 84

No more freshman..4 is enough.   One grad transfer and one true transfer would be perfect. Two grad transfers would be ok.

One done for this week, 30/70 on double scoop this week.  30 yes 70 no.

Please god let Egor happen. Doesn't have to be this week, not even the next. Just at some point make it happen

GGGG

I wouldn't mind keeping a scholarship open if no impact transfers are available.  Keeping some flexibility for mid-year is helpful.

Let's get Egor now!!!!!

We never seem to get my top transfer wish

But first time for everything!!

Correct, poorly phrased perhaps, but yes, fairly obvious that both Watson and Carrawell are from St. Louis.  Speaking of St. Louis, Mike Lewis II, the guard from Duquesne is announcing today if he is staying or transferring. Many expect him to stay at Duquesne.

Marcus92

I would love to see Egor in a Marquette uniform. He looks to be every bit as good of a shooter as Katin, and a better rebounder to boot. But I strongly suspect he's going pro.

Koulechov has earned his undergrad degree and turns 23 this November. So the decision likely comes down to: Which will be more beneficial in terms of exposure, opportunities and development — another year playing Division I college ball, or playing somewhere overseas (and getting paid to do it)? I just don't see MU as the answer.

Agree with you. We're not going to commit to a 4 year guy hopefully until Joey.
