FWIW, perusing one of the MSU message boards, their resident insider (Big Bank Hank, only makes sense) said "word on the street is Marquette" in regards to Tillman.

Sorry I'm just skimming over it so I might've missed it, but what page do you see that on?  The only page I read fully is page 3 (as page 2 goes back a long time) and I didn't see that on there.

On September 2, Big Bank Hank says "WOTS is Marquette."

That's about the extent of it.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

It was posted 9/2. Hopefully it still holds true.

Let's post unsubstantiated stuff here to drive other university boards crazy.

(Wait, we do that anyway!)   8-)

Post is a month old. Not saying it's wrong, but with his main visits coming after that, I wouldn't read too much into it.

Thank you.  Hopefully he loves the visit and we get good news a week from tomorrow.

Epperson's father did pretty well at Toledo after Harvey Knuckles and Dick Miller graduated.

We will really have to wow him this weekend, because he had a great visit at state and has family and his girl in Grand Rapids, and he said he was going to take all his visits, no matter what!

My apologies, should have specified that it was 9/2 and that it was literally just that blurb.
Just waiting on any news so I'll grasp at whatever I can get in the meantime.

Love that we're the last visit - seems like Wojo, Stan, and co. have a great success rate when we get targets to campus.  Agree with BD and everyone that him not committing on his MSU visit is massive.

Cool.  Toledo had a nice little program back then for a while.

Most bigs are projects.  Epperson might be as well.

Just based on size, I'd be surprised if he wasn't. He's moving up the rankings nicely, but I'd hold off on thinking he's the next Joel Embiid/Mitch McGary. Those are pretty rare.

The footage I've seen of Epperson is similar to Brian Butch skillwise in high school.  Epperson is a better athlete than Butch at the same stage and just needs to add the weight.

If Xavier Tillman and Hasahn French go elsewhere, I'd have no problem with Wojo landing Epperson.

It was interesting to see that all of our committed recruits this year have placed meaningful value and weighting on what Marquette offers beyond just basketball. I believe if Xavier Tillman and Hasahn French use that same approach we will have a reasonable chance at earning their commitments.

So, wee can expect Epperson to be named a McD AA, ai na?

Guys who haven't done much since high school are rare?

I think teams are hoping for a lot more than the next Mitch McGary when they sign a highly touted big man.

You're not familiar with his production in college?

Didn't MM lead his team to a natl title game? Didn't he go pro after 2 years?

"Lead" is kind of misleading (had Burke and stauskas). He went pro after he tested positive for a banned substance (same one he is suspended from the NBA for now).

Yep.  He played less than 20 mpg on that Michigan team.

I can't speak for anyone else but I'd be pretty happy with this sort of production from a young big

Championship game.
Elite 8. Injuries certainly held him down.
Draft.
OP said teams are looking for a lot more than this.

Nope. McGary led them to the Championship Game. He averaged 30.7 mpg in the tournament, 14.3 ppg, and 10.7 rpg. He was an absolute beast in that tournament. Every single game was an offensive rating over 100. Other guys certainly helped, but he was the most consistent player on that Michigan team in the tourney. No way in hell they get that far without him.

But that wasn't at all my point when I mentioned Embiid and McGary. I was referring to big men that come from out of nowhere to rocket to the top-10 in the rankings. Both Embiid and McGary did that (though McGary settled back around the 20s in final rankings). Epperson's a nice prospect and a good option to have, but not a guy I expect to see vying for All-American honors like Embiid and McGary.

withoutbias

Weren't we told a commitment from Epperson was on its way months ago?  I kind of figured when it didn't happen that the ship had sailed, and personally I'm not too upset about that if it's the case.
