They have three openings in 24-25.

Ah yes. They are the last of the Covid years.

I'd be shocked if all 3 stay.  I'd set the over/under at 1.

Those juniors were listed as freshmen last year. They are listed as juniors for a reason.

I expect them to take at least 2 in 2024. 1 frontcourt 1 wing. Maybe 2 frontcourt.

If they leave for the NBA, I can understand that.  If they leave because some booster from Duke or Texas drops a huge bag they can't turn down. I can understand that.

But I think Shaka is the type of coach who builds relationships that will make these kids stay.  I doubt we will have many (not 0) surprise transfers under Shaka.

Omax and Oso will leave for professional basketball in some capacity, if not this year next year after graduation. That just leaves Kolek. And it will be up him if he wants to stay, transfer, or pursue professional opportunities.

Staff won't worry about this until next year. They are focused on a handful of guys for 2024. They will likely have a 2+ man class

Kon Knueppel looking really really good to kick of the season. A guy I would love to have on the MU roster.

I usually don't give a crap if MU recruits locally, but he fills a big need with his shooting stroke. I'd love to see him in blue and gold.

Right on. Shooters are good. He will be a good Warrior.

I want a one big system. But I'm talking to providence and really want a UNC offer. Haha

He's a great player, but i don't think he knows exactly what he wants yet based on this interview.

Gotta say, I wish Shaka was recruiting a PG in 2024.  Might have to replace Kolek. And even if Kolek stays, I have to wonder what Sean Jones would do in that situation.

I know it's a long way off, but wish Shaka had a contingency plan.

tower912

With the guards already on the roster as well as Norman and Lowery coming in, the only way I want Shaka recruiting a 2024 guard is if he is a program changer OR coach knows there is going to be an exodus.

Not sure if anyone else felt this way on Saturday, but I was pretty impressed with how Kam handled the ball.
It didn't amount to assists, but I thought he was very under control for the magnitude of the moment.
Of course he had an amazing overall game offensively, I just thought his ability to handle/run the offense and drive to the basket was much better than we've seen.

He's obviously not a PG, he's a scoring 2G, but what do people think about Shaka giving him more of the ball to run sets?
I couldn't help but think on several occasions, and Shaka alluded to it in the postgame (along with Kam getting beat a lot defensively in the 1H) that Shaka should have given him even more of the ball on Saturday.

I would have liked to see him launch some additional 3s, even the head scratcher variety that Chucky had falling, and I would have liked more pick and roll or iso opportunities with the ball in his hands.

If he plans on playing in the NBA someday, besides the obvious lock down defender and defensive pest that he needs to become, it would be very beneficial to him to continue to run the offense and score at the hoop.
I'd like to see Shaka start using him more in this way this season.

tower912

Kolek is not ceding the PG role.  MU may run some sets where Kam gets to decide and make a play.

Wouldn't hate seeing Kam as the ball handler with Oso as the screener/roller and Joplin in the opposite corner.  Defense needs to go over the screen and/or big has to hedge, Oso can finish on the roll or if weak side help comes he can throw it to Joplin in the corner.  If we could put 4 shooters around Oso the offense would be incredible.  I just don't think the Oso roll, kick to a corner with...Stevie or OMax is scaring anyone.  Sure there will be a couple games where they make teams pay, but it won't be consistent.

I mean if Kolek is gone. The 2024 roster will have Sean Jones as the main point guard with two years of seasoning. Kam Jones as a Senior combo guard. Likely some Stevie Mitchell as a senior whether its as a Combo guard or a PG. And then Tre Norman as a sophomore will play some combo guard minutes in 2024.

That's a good BE backcourt.

That's the issue offensively that really lowers their ceiling, IMO.

If they could get any sort of consistency from Jop that would open up a lot more for them.
