according to espn+, we just dropped out of the top 25 recruiting rankings for 2023.  uconn(#5) and xavier (#12)

What that means is that other signed more players.  Or more 5 star players.    MU's class hasn't changed.    Two good players and one really good player.   Other have signed more players and more highly ranked players.    But assuming status quo and growth, none of the 2023 recruits needs to be a star immediately.

i shoulda preempted with fwiw, but yes, of course this doesn't necessarily change anything with regards to the team.  it's mostly conjecture for talking points and bragging rights.  who knows for sure how most of these guys will turn out.  so many variables

247 has our class at 18

I was personally higher on the incoming class than our current crop of true freshman but I might have to re-think that the way they've played so far. We'll see what happens against some real competition, but signs are positive so far.

I am more concerned about the following year recruiting as MU has enough good guards to fill two teams.  Really like what I saw last night, as there pressure D was
really good, but more importantly they have a very deep roster who can put the ball in the hole.  Only problem is the rebounding, they need to find one 6'10" kid with
a little muscle.  I do keep on looking at the team and wondering who gets the ax next year.  All the kids seem to be enjoying the team right now.  Not sure about Ellis but
I know he has great relationship with Shaka.  Only other person is Itejere, not sure where he fits in the future.  Maybe OMax, if he wants to play overseas.  It will be
interesting.  It would be good to get a transfer big in spring with some experience.

tower912

Will require two transfers out to make room for one 6'10 widebody.  Not feeling it.

Not sure who the 1 is, but like to trade a guard for a center!

Might as well....but I think we are in for some Nova 5-out when Oso isn't in...with guys like Ben Gold putting on muscle.

There is no shortage of high octane guards, but they will need some size and muscle to go to the next level.

Watching Stanford and Wisconsin I see big bodies playing, maybe not good ones, but trying to figure how MU will do against a team with size but really minimal basketball ability, we will find out Tuesday!

I'm worried about the class of 2025 you guys

Our bigs are skinny but athletic and skilled (not Itejere on the skill side yet).  It will definitely be a test of basketball philosophy.

I'm sure Shaka is looking for the ultimate hybrid of bulk, power, speed, athletic ability and skill (the next Zion perhaps).  But those types of bigs don't grown on trees.  Should be interesting to find out if this philosophy will work.

The Class of 2045 figures to be real challenging.

There are kids being born today who will play on Marquette's team.  Yes. Those are the ones to really focus on.   Very difficult.

You saw bodies in that game because none of their guards could shoot playing on a baseball diamond. Both teams chose to force the ball to the basket and go big thinking neither of them could shoot in that environment.

None of those big bodies on the court were as skilled or athletic as oso. If we recruited those 7 foot loaves of bread we would need to both have them lose weight and have them learn skills. If you recruit 6'8"-6'9"200 lbs  skilled forwards who grow with guard skills it is easier to teach them to be elite level bigs.

Look at the bigs Shaka had at texas that have had successful careers. Kai Jones, Jericho Sims, Jaxson Hayes, Jarrett Allen.. ALL of them were 6'9" and sub 210 as juniors. Mo is the lone exception.

I'll start questioning Shakas frontcourt philosophy when he stops sending a frontcourt players to the NBA.

Gotta filter early with those kids in the 98th percentile on height/weight at 6 month checkups to find that bruiser we need for the interior

2024.
Feels promising with Bryce Dortch.
I'd guess one of Knueppel or Mulready as of today.

2025.

Josan Sanon is a priority.
