As of this moment, he is undefeated.    Of course he is going to lose games this year.    Duh.

Like MU's Football Team...undefeated since 1960.

Yeah, but he hasn't won a single game either. Great coaches always find a way to win. Fire him now!

Ok. This made me laugh hard as hell.

Updated 247 rankings today for class of 2023.
Some of these guys may have cut MU from their list or were targets of the previous staff but here's what I've got:

Taison Chatman (Wojo target?) - #29
Braelon Green - #55
Jermaine Coleman - UR
Al Amadou - #97
Aaron Clark - #67
John Lamonthe - #46
Zaide Lowery - UR
Justin Edwards - #11
Taylor Bowen - #21
Dailyn Swain - #62
Asa Thomas - #46
Jalen Hooks - #82
Anthony Finkley - UR
Devin Royal - #121
Horace Simmons - UR
Milan Momcilovic - #41
Gus Yalden - #91
Brooklyn Hicks - UR
Dallas Bear - UR
Darrin Ames - #64
I am rooting for MU to sign Dallas Bear strictly on the basis of his name.

Nah. 2 freshman is plenty. Transfer market is where it’s at.

Transfers can go both ways. Will all of our players stay?

Buddy of mine recently spent time with a P6 head coach. That particular coach intends to leave 1/2 his open scholarships for the transfer market each year.  Yes, that could get tricky if you have a mass exodus of your own players.

The assumption seems to be that Shaka will always be able to land very good transfers but that he’ll never lose any that are worth keeping.

Here’s hoping that ends up being true.

He was originally a Wojo target but Shaka has made a few visits to see Mr. Chatman.

In your opinion will the 23 recruiting/transfer class be an indicator of where the program is heading? The BE coaches as of now don't think this team is competitive, and the two 22 recruits that have verbaled have not generated any real excitement. I hope Goose is right. That Shaka has a system and can coach players up and play to that system and win. I guess we'll know after this season.

I think it will be one of many indicators and far from the most important one. For all intents and purposes, this current crop of 9 "freshmen" players is Shaka's first core recruiting class. How he develops them and whether or not he can keep most of them together over the next few years will be the most important indicator of his success at MU. The 23/24 classes will be important because any success this recruiting cycle won't be meaningful unless he can build on it.

I am excited about Shaka. I like his style, he knows his players very well and values those relationships. And he has already gone over to the other side of the hill and realized that the grass isn't always greener. I could see him being our coach that stays for 20+ years if he can be successful. That of course is a big if.

I have always been a believer of having a system and recruiting guys to fit that system. Bo Ryan had a tremendous amount of success being a system coach and I believe Shaka's system is going to be a lot easier to recruit the right kids. At this point I have zero concern that Shaka will have guys that fit his style and will be successful.

Very well said. I like our roster and am confident that Shaka will coach them to win. We'll surprise a lot of people.

I just expect the young players that do not play a lot will look elsewhere. It is not like they can say the players ahead of them are graduating.

I believe you will find that instead of competing for the Top 100 type players as WOJO had done vs. the blue bloods.  To some success but also some failure.

I think Shaka is going to go after his type of "system" player which makes the competition for certain players less acute.   I think Shaka's pool could range anywhere from Ranking 1 to Ranking 250.   If the player fits what he wants.   That is his decision and fit.

Seattle Seahawks use this method to try and gain an edge.   Instead of competing for high level draft picks.  They eliminate a.certain pool of players by signing defensive linemen from smaller schools or division 2 and re-train them to be offensive lineman.   Then having higher picks and lesser positions to fill with those higher picks.   So instead of drafting for a 22 man starting squad.   They are  only trying to fill 17 positions with "each teams" limited draft capital.

Shaka can now focus on "certain" attributes that fit his system.  Look at the point guard he just signed.  Pretty much a 3 star rated somewhere in the 100 to 200 area. But Shaka sees a fit.

We shall see......

Why not go after top recruits who also can play in Shaka's system? These two things are not mutually exclusive.
The idea that a 150th ranked wing or point guard is going to have attributes that fit the system, while all the top 40-50 wings and guards lack those attributes, seems pretty specious. Shaka's system is largely built on length and athleticism, which top 50 kids usually aren't lacking.
Obviously Shaka shouldn't recruit by ranking, but this all feels like building up excuses and justifications for not landing top kids.

As for the Seahawks, I'm not sure I'd point to their offensive line as an example of success. And the team has invested plenty of resources, including high draft picks, in the o-line during the Pete Carroll era.

I’m confident that burger is saying that Shaka will go for his type of player, even if he happens to be ranked number 1.

I think you can read into Shaka's focus on "culture" with Ross.

https://www.thehoophustle.com/news_article/show/1182646

14. Chase Ross, 6’4” Wing, Cushing 2022

You’re not gonna find Ross on any national top-100 lists but he’s being recruited like a top-50 prospect in 2022. And justifiably so! The Texas-native is a violent athlete who plays the game with the perfect mix of aggression and passion without sacrificing his unselfish nature along the way. When you blend that type of rare skillset with Ross’ rare athleticism, you typically get high-level production with a low-maintenance attitude.
