2023 Prospect Brooklyn Hicks out of Washington state is visiting 11/14-11/15. We will be hosting the Illini during the visit.

Not ranked on 247. Seems to be a late bloomer that made some noise recently in a few prospect camps. 6'3" PG that looks like he can throw down dunks like DJ Carton, if that's your sort of thing. Has offers from Washington, Oregon State, and Washington State.

Stealing from an Oregon State site in January 2021:

"A rising talent who was selected to the 3A South Sound Conference First-Team as a freshman last year, Hicks scooped up his first scholarship in April of 2020 from Eastern Washington. He also holds offers from Cal Poly, Long Beach State and Washington State, in addition to a long list of interest from programs.

On the court, Hicks is a smooth finisher around the rim with a strong jump shot, who simply has a knack for the ball when he's on the court. He has the ability to use his length and instincts to read passing lanes on defense and an exceptional passing ability to make plays for teammates. He projects long-term as a likely high-major recruit, who might be one of the best players in his class on the west coast."
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Guys, this isn't like the olden days.

You don't get a big in recruiting, you go after a big in free agency.

Much of Shaka's near term success will come with how things go this year. We play well, have a winning record and maybe make the NCAA and they'll find their way to Marquette.

Biggest thing we have to do is establish an identity. We have guys who want to be here, play well together and don't ferment dissent and next think you'll know, we'll be in a final cut. We need to play well as a team and, most of all, WIN!

Zaire Wade to G League
Interesting. How many high school kid ranked around 300 go direct to the G-League? I hope he does well but it seems like playing time might be hard to get. IMHO, he'd have more opportunities at an A10 or MWC school. All the best to him.

Zaire Wade to G League

More specifically, Zaire Wade to the G League affiliate of the team his dad has an ownership stake in. I feel kind of bad for Zaire. There's no way he's ready to compete at that level after coming off the bench in high school.

I am one of Zaire's biggest supporters .

This is a tragic move. Zaire's talents are best suited at a low major . Perform there and transfer.

He will be eaten alive in the G League. There are desperate grown men in that league .

Sure, but even though that team lost Happ, they returned 3 of their top 5 scorers and 5 guys who averaged 20+ minutes.  Very different IMO than this returning squad.

Whats special about Wahl?  Wasn't a highly touted recruit and hasn't done much in two years.  Other than playing well against NW, he's not scored much at all despite consistently playing 25-30 min, not sure why you'd suddenly expect him to start filling it up.

My responses:

1). Where did I say Wahl was special?  He was the top defensive front courter for the Badgers last year and is kind of that glue guy.  Good rebounder who has improved some offensively.  My point is that he will be a starter and will play a lot of minutes.

2). I don't care about recruiting rankings.

3). I never said anything about Wahl filling it up.  See my first point.

I thought Rhode Island was the perfect landing spot for him. Kinda weird move.

Ok, I mean, I included him in their top returning minutes guys with Davidson and Davis.  But they lost a ton of play making and scoring.  If one of their best players is just a glue guy who doesn't score much, it speaks to the weakness of the season outlook.  I only mentioned ranking cause it's not like he was someone touted highly that was expected to break out eventually.

Nothing from your description of Wahl makes their outlook brighter, IMO

Why not, it is more a commentary on the state of the MU basketball program and won't change until Shaka can put a winning team on the court.

We R Final Four

He hasn't even coached a single game yet.

In the past 22 seasons, Marquette has put out a losing team on the court twice, both times were under Steve Wojciechowski.

Yeah, but he hasn't won a single game either. Great coaches always find a way to win. Fire him now!

He was originally a Wojo target but Shaka has made a few visits to see Mr. Chatman.

Brooklyn Hicks still unranked and should be on this list given his upcoming visit.

As of this moment, he is undefeated.    Of course he is going to lose games this year.    Duh.
