Chase Ross and Malik Dia both OV'ing over the next couple weeks.  Both fit well into the "athletic, high energy" program Shaka has consistently talked about.

Thank you!

No idea if the current staff has any interest, but they probably should. Top 40 6-8 SF from Indianapolis.

Good luck to the young man, wherever he may land.

He might see quite a bit of competition at his position at MU, but methinks it would still be a good landing spot if he believes in his abilities!

The New World of college basketball. If a recruit is highly rated, he can say "show me the money". Shaka is likely confined to landing under the radar recruits for now but in the future we will have to deal with this. I've believed for quite a while that immediate transfers were not the greatest change for high level teams. They can work for a team just as well as they can work against it. How will Marquette compete in the NIL game?

Absolutely positively have to get creative. I think a smart thing for a school at our level to do would be an NIL share similar to our TBT squad where studs & end of bench guys all get an even split of a certain pot. Would promote an atmosphere of family-oriented team-focused ballers. Not saying that's the only way to go about it, guys could have their one-off personal deals too, but it would be nice to have something like that as part of the brand.

While Marquette's budget is a bit skewed because of the Fiserv rental cost, our program spends a lot on basketball. That's because our donors spend a lot on our program. There are multiple billionaires that have made donating to Marquette basketball a priority and it was someone outside that class that paid to make Wojo go away.

While we don't have the breadth of donors a state school will have, we also don't have a football program that will be priorities 1-9 for those donors. As long as we get back to winning, the investment will come just like it always has.

NIL will be like college basketball has always been. There will be the blue bloods that prioritize spending on basketball and are hardest to beat, like Kentucky, UNC, Duke, & Kansas. Then there will be that next tier of programs that can compete either because of size or dedication. There's no reason whatsoever Marquette can't be a top 15-20 basketball NIL program. And as long as Shaka wins, we will be.

Two great replies to the NIL question I posed. Thanks Sikk and Brew. Its something that Marquette absolutely must address as Shaka positions Marquette to compete for high level recruits. If a current player or Jones proves to be a big star, we may have to deal with NIL sooner than expected or risk an "NIL transfer"- a guy who would like to stay but has a chance to make some money elsewhere. I'm not sure how the pot sharing concept would actually work out but its interesting.

I hope the newly created NIL division in the MU athletic department is working overtime to bring in the cash from local and national sponsors.  Have the best NIL division in college athletics!  That's got to be the goal.

Yeah, "multiple billionaires" are donating to MU basketball?? I can believe MU probably has a few millionaire donors, but come on, there just aren't that many billionaires in the world, well less than 700 in the US by estimates.  And it just so happens our beloved men's basketball program is lucky enough to be the priority of "multiple" of this very exclusive club?  Give me a break.

Not sure if the Eckstein family (of the late founder of Marquette Transportation, alum Ray Eckstein) are  billionaires but they have donated Big Bucks to MU. In addition to alums, there are Milwaukee companies that could help out- Kohler, Harley Davidson, etc. As I have said many times here, I saw Shakamania first hand in Richmond. He took the whole effin' city, not just VCU, by storm and he could do it again. Can't imagine Milwaukee companies not wanting to be part of the buzz.

The couple who owned the Tug Boat company are both dead.

They funded the law school, the fancy new dormitory , the Jes residence , and numerous contributions to MU Sports. The son who took over did not attend MU. So don't know if they are still players in MU projects .

Is Mr Strong still a big player in MU Sports ?

To be a factor in NIL , MU needs people like this who are both wealthy and inclined to make big donations .

Marquette isn't going to miss on 5-stars because of NIL, they're going to miss on 5-stars because they always have.  Shaka Smart or no Shaka Smart.  The rich will stay rich like the entire existence of college basketball.  Marquette will have to get creative.  Badger football dwarfs the basketball team in popularity but what massive deals have their kids landed?  The o-line getting a deal with a BBQ place?  That ain't tipping the scales, so to speak.  The kids Marquette gets and recruits for the most part will be kids getting NIL opportunities on the much smaller scale.  It's more of the same.  If Marquette starts winning big again, things will change.  If there was NIL in the 70's or when DWade was around or the 3 Amigos, Marquette would have been just fine.  EDIT: Big Mistake 🤭
