5J—we know. You have stated your position plenty.

You think Shaka did a good job on the never-before-seen immediate eligibility transfer market?

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Yes.  He's building a culture.  He was never going to get the very top transfers (the guys who want to compete for a national title...we weren't in that position to offer that opportunity with a coaching change).  So he got a couple of seniors who will defend and play with energy, and he got a bunch of guys with 3-4 years of eligibility that fit his system.

Fair take.  I guess I had higher hopes, but if I get the culture angle for sure.  Was just hoping to see a tourney team next season.

If Dawson were to return I think you could.  A starting lineup of (hypothetically) Morsel, Greg, OMax, Lewis, and Dawson will defend and have enough scoring, and then I like what Kuath, Kolek, Joplin, and Mitchell can bring off of the bench.  Without Dawson you lack the offensive stud you probably need, but I think we'll be better than most people are expecting.

Nice summary Brother BLM. I totally agree with your assessment.

Without Dawson, we're so young and untested it's hard to figure out what we really have. I'm not optimistic about 2021-2022 but I don't think we're a ninth place team in the BEast.

With Dawson, I think we have a better than average year and we might sneak into the NCAA. Possibly, maybe?

Not betting on seeing Dawson in a Warrior uniform this fall.

I am very bullish on our recruits and our transfers taken as a whole at the time of this post.  I look at the rest of our conference and so no reason why we can't be in strong competition for that 3rd spot after Nova and U Conn.

I am still with you. I think they will be playing in the NCAA this upcoming season.

I have not had this level of optimism for the program moving forward for several years.  At minimum, we will be seeing a new style of play (one that actually values takeaways defensively) and a complete new roster of players.  It will be different and fresh, and I cannot wait to watch our first game and see how all of the pieces begin fitting together.  I would love nothing more than for a Shaka-led team to make the tournament in the first year, but the realist in me sees not just the abundance of new faces, but the lack of experience that is very apparent for the team.  Elliott is our one returning senior; Kuath and, likely, Morsell, are the only other upper classmen on the roster. There will be so many first-year and second-year players that it will be unpredictable to gauge who will step up and who will progress quicker than others.  Against a Big East schedule, every game will be a gauntlet, and the teams that finish near the top of the league usually have a nice balance of experience and toughness, with a mixture of some young talent here and there.  Overall, we just won't have that experience - nothing we can do about that.  However, I am excited about the potential toughness the team could have, and there is no doubt that there will be some strong incoming talent to make things interesting.

As long as the team develops, improves and is clearly better at the end of the season than it was at the start, which was a clear void under Wojo the past three seasons, we will be in great shape going into 22-23.  Hoping for a tournament appearance, but will by no means be disappointed if we miss given the substantial turnover.

I agree with you and BLM. Both posts are well worded. I really doubt that we are a 9th place team but that's as far as I will go unless Garcia surprises us and returns. 8th or even 7th are doable though. I'm looking forward to seeing the team gel under Shaka's leadership as the season progresses. No more deer in the headlights syndrome that Wojo passed on to the team last year. I remember an adage from when I was taking horse riding lessons that was repeated often to students to emphasize the importance of being confident and in control: "Nervous rider, nervous horse". Same basic principle works for coach/team.

Love the optimism, G-Dubs, and this is the camp I'm in, too.

I'm hoping we can improve fast and play well as a team by Jan/Feb, and maybe sneak into the tourney. But even if we don't, I'm excited about our future.

Hey, you're talkin' 'bout the Gonzaga of the East there!
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

80 dollar face value ticket for Bond. And getting to sit with coaches if no other players are on it with him.

It is MU's home building also. Couldn't they be "touring" the facility during the time of the game?
