Or Bates?

Marquette has been in contact with Bates. Haven't heard anything about Ellis, has he even decommitted?

At this time he has not asked for release from his LOI--or at least it has not been made public. That said, Hatt may be talking to him regardless since he hasn't officially been announced as Marquette asst coach.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Nice Steele article on Mitchell and Jones remaining committed

Check out this article from Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Kordell Charles announcing soon. FWIW, Cody Hatt recently started following Charles on Twitter.

Charles played at IMG Academy with Tamar Bates.

Interesting. I like Charles as a prospect for sure. Sleeper sort of recruit that reminds me slightly of JFB. But if we are looking at also adding Bates and Joplin, definitely gonna be a young group going into the season (and how much redundancy will there be?)

Spaniel with a Short Tail

Maybe coaches will start to focus more on players in the transfer portal - who can't leave the program without sitting out a year - as opposed to high school seniors who can walk after one year without sitting out a year. Better chance of keeping players around.

I'm sure that coaches will adjust and use both HS and transfers. Players might adjust, too.  Why sit on the bench at a high major when you can play as a freshman at a mid major and transfer up after a year or two?

The best recruiters will continue to be excellent recruiters. Players will hunt for what they always have - playing time and a "good fit."

Far too many folks hate change or fear change. Intelligent, effective coaches and players -- at all levels of college hoops -- will embrace change and use it to their advantage.

Anyone know more about where he projects in terms of position. Originally he was listed as a SF, but looks like he has grown significantly to 6'8" and is now often listed as a PF.

Intriguing prospect that would seem like a good fit for Shaka's system, but wondering where he fits ideally in terms of position.

JTJ3

Charles would be a 4 for shaka, just like joplin would be.  If you look at his texas teams, he pretty much always played 3 true guards, sometimes even 4.  Tougher to pressure on D with slower, oversized wing players.

Signing begins next Wednesday, 4/21. There's lots of maneuvering going on behind the scenes.

Wojo target Kordell Charles was supposed to be announcing soon but now is reopening his recruitment. Maybe he was going to come here and the offer no longer stands?

I dont think his scholarship stands anymore at either MU or Illinois honestly.

Sounds plausible.

I'm guessing Joplin is the new staff's preference and they didn't want two forwards.

With things looking good with Joplin, Charles has to look elsewhere.

Yeah. I do feel like MU is in a good position to benefit from it more than most, regardless. Obviously biased. But I feel like blue bloods will still get most of their output from top 30 type players & the rationale for a guy to make their one big jump up (to be a feature player & make the league) might not be so obvious there. I just don't see why most great transfers would want to move up to Kentucky or Kansas & be liable to being recruited over by a #1 prospect at any time.

On the flipside, I can't really imagine players transferring up from MU outside of personal reasons. Transfer down seems far more likely & in that case, 9 times out of 10 it should be beneficial rototilling of the roster... Likely guys that just didn't work out. I can't see great players leaving us to get more draft attention... But I could at least somewhat imagine that for some teams in the Big East.

D'Lo Brown

I also think/hope that people will be generally less alarmed by player transfers. It's a good development for all involved... We all benefited from the ability to control our own destiny in college, change our path as we see fit, & learn to deal with the consequences good or bad. It's not a failure of Shaka or the player.

Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Indiana, Marquette, Oregon, Illinois, Mizzou, and Purdue.

Good point. Let's hope his comment about committing to Shaka, not Texas, holds up.

Looking at Bates' previous comments, I'd say Marquette is probably the favorite with Mizzou and Oklahoma State the most likely non-MU destinations.

It'd be awesome to finally have back to back great classes where the kids perform to expectation and stick around.
