Yah.  Everything I said still applies.

So why spend one more year playing for free for a mediocre team and lose out on making six figures?

We R Final Four

None of the seniors will be returning.

oldwarrior81

no offense to the current players, but they may be pressed to earn more than $65,000 overseas if they are fortunate to sign with a team in a higher tier league.

Those roster spots are limited, and those earning more than $100k are generally guys that just missed out on making a NBA roster.

Not unheard of for a monthly contract for a US player to be less than $3,000 a month for the lower level Euro leagues.

That figure is on the low side. Plus euro contracts include housing/utilities, car, phone, meals etc. The initial salary figure may not blow you away, but it's a nice pay day when most living expenses are taken care of.

I think some people underestimate how much $65,000 a year is for most people

Especially when you're banking the majority of it. It's a very good deal.

Most recent data I've seen is that the average 4-year college grad makes around $53K after graduation. That means that roughly half of college grads make less than that. $65K right out of college with lots of expenses paid? That's amazing for most.

And I'd guess that if you remove STEM careers the average would drop substantially.

While I would agree that may not be much to gain returning, its not like Jamal, Theo or Koby are going to make big time bucks playing basketball.  A free graduate degree while playing basketball fulltime without really having to worry about school (I don't think these graduate programs most grad transfers take are very strenuous) has to be pretty attractive to guys that are going to middling overseas pros at best.

The thing is, none of the guys you mentioned believe they'll be "middling overseas pros".  They've seen their peers who are a couple years older, guys they played with at school and AAU, go overseas and make six figures playing ball.  You don't think they want in on that as soon as it makes sense for it to be an option?  You think they'd rather spend another year going to class and grinding at the Al, as opposed to just chilling all day and going to practice for 2-3 hours on non-game days and getting paid pretty well for it?

It's been fun watching Theo grow as a player and a young man. He has become a solid Big East 5 - not great but definitely the kind of guy a team can win with - and a good representative of the Marquette community.

But he is not an NBA player, and nothing he would do at Marquette or any other school for a 5th season would make him into an NBA player. I do agree with those who say he'd earn some good $$ playing overseas.

Now, if he wants to play one more year of college hoops while getting a free graduate degree, that's a whole 'nother story. None of us knows what he's thinking.

I know this is a recruiting thread, but some rumors I've been hearing is that Symir is going to transfer at the end of the season. Would not be shocked if this becomes true

I mean he's gotta see that Wojo went after two guards plus see his own play and think "damn maybe I already peaked" shame because he seems like a genuinely nice young man that wants to win here.
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

There's gotta be a place in the NBA for a 6-9 guy that can shoot 75% from three.
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

I love that, TS!

And on that note ... time for me to go watch Marquette beat UNC!

I would not be to upset if he left, watching his first pass tonight was pathetic

He seemed very tight his first time on the court. Yes, that pass was pathetic. But he played quite well in the second half when DJ desperately needed some rest. Hit a huge 3 - after which I turned to my wife and said, "Damn! We're gone win this game!" - and had a really nice drive that didn't go in but brought over their big man so Theo could slam home the rebound.

Like every other player who got into the game for Marquette, he contributed to a decisive win at the Dean Dome.

I think Brandin Podziemski is cutting his list today and hope we make the cut if so.

I said the same thing. If Sy is making that 3, no way we lose.

Ideal situation would be to get Carton, Lewis, and Garcia back, maybe Jamal and/or Theo come back, and then add one of Podziemski, Burnett, or Tyrese Hunter if Prohm is fired (all 3 would be cool, but so would be hiring Beilein and I just don't see either situation playing out).

If you include Business/Finance/Marketing/Accounting as STEM (and it probably is), the the average probably would drop into the high $30,000s or very low $40,000s.

The one career in that group I'd strongly advise against is Journalism. The slaughter of jobs and salaries in that field is sad going on horribly depressing.

What's this have to do with staying or going? If a student/athlete went to college with a vision of a degree, having a graduate degree arising from one additional year in college definitely will help. On the other hand, if your degree is in Communications, go to the pros NOW as you're gong to need whatever you can bank!

Illinois
Kentucky
Miami
Wake Forest
