Unbelievable. This is the worst recruiting loss to Dayton since Kostas!!!
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

City is "not so great" - I would rather live ANYWHERE else.
Extremely sad story about freshman basketball player Michael Currin:
https://www.fox19.com/2020/09/20/moeller-hosts-prayer-service-support-critically-injured-graduate-michael-currin/
Found laying in the street after "falling" out of the back of a pickup truck just off campus.
Walking from dorm on campus to nearby restaurant - found over a mile in opposite direction.
Driver and (2) others inside (locals, not students) took off - busted by street cameras and were called in long after the incident by police.
Absolutely great kid, the kind any parent would want - no alcohol in system.
A lot of people are obviously convinced that he didn't get in the bed of that pickup without being forced.
Sure UD media relations doesn't want any of this out...

Very sad story. I don't think he was playing hoops at UD, though I understand he was a very good high school player on a great team. Police said he accepted a ride to pick up pizza, not UD media relations. Sounds like he was a great kid. UD lost another freshman student to Covid related complications yesterday. 2020....

Back to the recruiting thread, though stuff like this sure helps keep recruiting news in perspective.

Without question, you are the WORST MU fan on this board.

I'm not saying you gotta blow smoke up Wojo/MU's ass 24/7. But the only time you make MU basketball related comments is to tear down staff, players and the university or prop up another university's program.

Crystal Ball is now trending to Dayton.  The 100% expert has switched to the Flyers.  What is going on?

That should be pretty obvious.

Meanwhile Dayton's program appears to be well ahead of ours. They'll have an NBA top 5 draft selection and it appears that they are positioned to replace him with a top 40 recruit who was impressed with the coaching staff's ability to develop talent. Sometimes the truth hurts, aina?

Yeah not really.

So why did Dawson Garcia come to MU? What's the truth there?

Fake news.

Most logical explanation? Holmes dropped his first choice (Arizona) when they were served with a notice of allegations. People then assumed MU would be his choice when faced with competition from only pretty much irrelevant Cal and mid major Dayton. They were wrong. He picked mid major Dayton.

I don't get why this is being just dismissed.  Probably since current recruits have been closely watching colleges, Dayton has clearly outperformed MU. Since MU made the E8 in 14, Dayton made the E8 in 15, the round of 32 is 16, and would have been a 1/2 seed last year, where MU would have likely been in by the skin of their teeth.  Since these kids entered high school, Dayton has been better on the court.

To be clear, the signs switched from AZ->MU->DU.  But he hasn't announced yet.  I'm fully expecting all the predictions to move to Cal tomorrow because he's playing with everyone.  And then select AZ on Sun.

Not sure if a scooper owns this account, https://twitter.com/GoldenEagles_MU, but this account seems to be very down about Holmes announcement.

I posted earlier Dayton once I got clarification before experts flip predictions.

Originally the rumor was Marquette or Arizona but that information never came from Holmes camp. Instead, people close to Arizona thought it was a 2 team race.

Wrong!

It's a worthy a topic. The topic is being dismissed because of the lack of credibility of the author of the post. And that has been well earned.

Dayton:

Anthony Grant had an elite Dayton team last year, his 3rd season.

Prior to that Archie Miller had 4 straight NCAA seasons before leaving for Indiana, including an elite 8 run.

Prior to that Brian Gregory and Oliver Purnell had 2 NCAA's each, over 16 seasons, 8 each.

It is inevitable on this board. When non Power 5 school Marquette wins a recruiting battle with Power 5 schools, it is because Marquette belongs with them. When non Power 5 school Marquette loses a recruiting battle to a non Power 5 and non Big East school, how could MU lose a recruiting battle to a mid major.

It's like Chicago people saying Milwaukee people have an inferiority complex, when many others consider Chicago flyover country from the coasts etc...there will always be some form of that stuff.

But if you respect every place, every team, every coach, you can actually avoid all of that nonsense.

Dayton has been able to elevate its program over the previous two decades under Archie Miller, and Dayton then made a good hire so far with Anthony Grant to have that strong coaching transition in place that many schools can struggle with. Marquette was able to do this from Crean to Buzz to some extent.

Holmes is a very good high major player and talent. I hope he picks MU. MU does already have several similar type of players on its roster as opposed to some other positions. If he picks MU, awesome, let's go. If he picks Dayton, a respectful good luck to him at Dayton, and immediately on to the next one.

Does that mean the program is "well ahead of ours?"  Nope.  Too many people view these things as relative rankings with programs.  Is Marquette "well ahead" of Indiana, Maryland and Baylor because they beat them out for Garcia and Lewis?  Of course not.

The answer is likely much simpler.  Anthony Grant is a very good coach, who after struggling at Alabama, spent some time on a NBA bench and can use that to his advantage as a recruiter.  He sold Holmes on his role at Dayton, probably pointed out that Lewis and Osa are filling similar roles here, and painted a picture of how he could get Holmes to the NBA.

Just because a prospect chooses to go elsewhere, that doesn't mean your program has a black mark.

Dr. Blackheart

Without a live fan base at FF for Big East basketball, MUBB is Dayton to recruits.  And, factually, Grant is a better coach. I understand Holmes had a campus visit but COVID is not to MU's advantage recruiting-wise, especially with playing time to offer.
