Crazy that Howard University has passed Kentucky as a college basketball program. My how the mighty have fallen.

I've cooled on Daron Holmes anyways

It's the name "Golden Eagles" sounds  weak, compared to WARIORS, WARIORS, WARRIORS.

Most logical explanation? Holmes dropped his first choice (Arizona) when they were served with a notice of allegations. People then assumed MU would be his choice when faced with competition from only pretty much irrelevant Cal and mid major Dayton. They were wrong. He picked mid major Dayton.

I think this is correct. I don't know for sure that Zona was #1 and got dropped because of the allegations, but I think there was a leak that Arizona was out and everyone assumed that if Zona was out, MU was in. Then they did some real digging  and found out it was Dayton.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

Dayton: 79.3
MU: 39

Dayton is not currently ahead of Marquette as a program. They had a great season while we had a good season. We'll see if that trend continues.

Not sure if a scooper owns this account, https://twitter.com/GoldenEagles_MU, but this account seems to be very down about Holmes announcement.

That account is stalker x10 for teenage kids MU is recruiting but definitely invested into recruiting world and good at reading tea leaves

The Big East

Without a live fan base at FF for Big East basketball, MUBB is Dayton to recruits.  And, factually, Grant is a better coach. I understand Holmes had a campus visit but COVID is not to MU's advantage recruiting-wise, especially with playing time to offer.
You are making a good point about the FF value to recruiting.

MU was on the cusp of consistently being a top 15 program at the end of the Crean/Buzz era. MU is now closer to a mid 30s program.  The recruiting pitch is slightly different .  One is come here and you will benefit from the overall strength of the program and the rising tide carries all boats, with proof of many kids matriculating to NBA.  The other is come here and we will give you immediate playing time in a competitive league and you can lead us to the promised land. I think the selling playing time approach is a much tougher because so many more programs can offer a similar benefit.

With FF at full capacity our playing time pitch is more resonant.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

This to me feels like Dameon Mason all over again. Team in a mid-tier league has a wonder season behind a top-5 NBA pick and immediately lands a top-40 player to replace that star. Best of luck to him, glad he considered MU.

I think we all appreciate your insights and passion for MU recruiting on the board.

didn't recommend anyone to follow/unfollow you. Tweeting at high schoolers to play at MU is just generally frowned upon

100% agree. Dayton isn't in same stratosphere as MU basketball in the overall big picture

Which iteration?  There were a few while Marquette was in it.  The current iteration of the A-10 isn't as good as the 2013 version

Yeah, CUSA used to be a pretty good conference. Nothing to scoff at pre-2006.
