Okay, strictly sticking to guards, we have...

2015: Traci Carter, Haanif Cheatham, Andrew Rowsey
2016: Markus Howard
2017: Greg Elliott
2018: Joseph Chartouny, Koby McEwen
2019: Symir Torrence, Dexter Akanno
2020: DJ Carton

Yes, he missed on some guys, but he's generally brought guards in every year. Where he hasn't, he's filled spots with transfers. Some have been great, like Howard and Torrence. Some have washed out, like Carter and Cheatham. Some have been somewhere in the middle, like Elliott, McEwen, and (so far) Torrence. Only one has been truly terrible, in Chartouny.

Wojo's plan A seems to be the high level guards. He goes after guys like Howard, Grimes, Mannion, Torrence, and Davis. But he supplants those with three stars like Elliott and Akanno where he can and fills in with transfers like Chartouny and McEwen where he can't.

I have a ton of issues with Wojo's tenure, but I feel that his recruiting has been fine and honestly improved as he went along. Instead of small guards like Carter, Rowsey, and Howard, he's generally looking to bigger guards with frames better suited for the Big East, guys that look like the guards Chris Mack was getting to Xavier. The results aren't there, but the recruiting strategy is okay.

Six guards in 6 years who came in as frosh. 4 transfers in who averaged 1.5 years. 2 frosh who transferred out after 1 and 2.5 years respectively. That's not enough which is why the program always seems to be short of guards. Otherwise, I agree that the recruiting strategy is okay.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Not if you are perpetually short of impact guards.

Perpetually short of impact guards?
Do you mean to say that Markus Howard was not an impact player?

No.  I mean we really haven't had a decent player to complement him since Rowsey left.

6'9 2021 guard Eric van der Heijden has received an offer from Marquette.

It is his tenth offer.

Looks like he blew up in December. Not much video out there, but from what there is he can definitely shoot it and pass it. 247's composite ranks him at 140, 247 itself ranks him at 79. Could be a guy Wojo gets in on early and then he skyrockets in the rankings.

I hate to do this, but I watched some video and all I could think of was Sam, but with bounce.

My first comparison was Novak, with more athleticism.

I hate mixtapes because they can make anyone look like a stud, but boy does that look good. Nice high release, excellent bounce, some nice passing chops, but who knows what the level of competition is there. I mean, I could look like a D1 recruit if you put me on a court with fourth graders and an 8-foot rim.

Plus, his offers this far are nothing to write home about...at least not yet. As we know that can all change very quickly

Eric Van Der Heijden. Huge upside. Why? Same number of syllables and alliteration with Logan Van Der Velden from Valders, WI. He of mid-90s fighting Phoenix fame.
Zenyatta has a lot....a lot... of ground to make up. She gets there from here she'd be a super horse......what's this.....Zenyatta hooked to the grandstand side....Zenyatta flying on the outside....this....is...un-belieeeeeevable!...looked impossible at the top of the stretch...

I agree with this analysis.

Also, he's got the good bounce - good one leg jumper, which has more utility.  Also appears to palm ball easily.  Good form on jumper.  Like the offer.

I'm pretty sure you have to say his name using the accent of the Swedish chef.

Regarding Mane I would not of cut bait, because we are or were the perceived leader.

I think Wojo has done well identifying players early. Players that do not improve are left behind. However, players like R.J. Davis improve so much that they leave MU behind.

The Dutch kid Van Der Heijden seems like a poor mans Dawson Garcia.

If he continues to rise and the heavier offers start rolling in Wojo will have the double trump card of "hey kid I got in on ya early" and "you see Dawson and the success he's having, you can come and fill his shoes if he leaves for the NBA or play alongside him"

Either way, Wojo is having a lot of success getting in on these types of budding recruits early and it's great

I teach at St. Catherines, and I have never heard anyone call it St. Cates.  Just St. Cats.

But I agree with your point.  I'm a little surprised that Tyrese didn't sign up as soon as he got an offer, but I think Wojo is still in the drivers seat with him.

I thought Tyrese wanted to play for Marquette. Why is he holding out when the offer's on the table?
