Not really. It was an offer to provide land and pay for a Coal Lodge style dorm that would have been at least among the best basketball dorms in the country.

And turning down a gift worth, conservatively, tens of millions of dollars, would be a really dumb punishment. Just one more reason the Pilarz/Williams tenure was an unmitigated disaster for Marquette basketball.

I don't think this offer of a new residence hall is as black and white as it has been presented.  I will just leave it at that.

I may be biased as someone who hates cold weather (yet loved my time at MU), but if you want to have a better chance of pulling from a larger pool, I think a state of the art residence hall that would offer tons of indoor amenities (maybe even a walkway to the AL) could help win a lot more 50/50 battles. I really hope another offer like that materializes soon... or that we can find it in the budget to make it happen independently

Would it be possible to have two separate recruiting threads? One can be labeled MU recruiting news. One can be labeled recruiting discussion. This is a sincere request, thanks.

I get why you want this, but do you really think that labeling a thread recruiting news would keep discussion out?  Do you think that unpaid volunteer moderators would have time to police this?  It's a nice idea -- just like world peace.

I understand why a basketball dorm might be needed or help with recruitment.  Maybe that is just the way it is to complete with a Louisville, KY, etc. 

But I also understand Marquette wanting the players to be part of the greater Marquette community and part of the college experience a bit more.  Being completely isolated from the regular students and school is not ideal.  It might look flashy on a visit, but in the long term a lot of what makes college a learning and growing experience is what happens in interactions between students with different experiences.... being part of a greater community with unique people.  I know that has been a goal of Marquette, to not have the basketball team run as a totally separate entity from the school.  They've done a good job with that... I hope that can continue.  But I do understand if a flashy dorm with special amenities is needed for recruiting.

Todd was in my Philosophy class for his last year at Marquette. He had two phones out which he somehow managed to be on both at the same time the few days he showed up

I'm thinking it comes down to how comfortable he is with the players in the Marquette program.  He's built his relationship with the coaching staffs of each program, he's seen both programs' facilities, and he's heard the recruiting pitches.  If he was so blown away by IU's facilities that he can't pass them up unless Marquette can match them, well, he wouldn't bother visiting because he's already seen everything Marquette has to offer on his first official visit.  He knows the recruiting pitch for both programs.  My guess is that he's more comfortable with the IU team since he played with some of those guys previously, so he wants to see how he fits in at Marquette.  My hope is the MN connection with Theo and Sacar helps and then he gets along with the underclassmen he'll be here with.  Would be great if they could get Lewis on campus the same weekend as they've built a relationship through USA Basketball as well.

Maybe Jay Bee can answer better but this whole thing on playing  with the current IU recruits seems to have taken on a life of its own.  Leal and Galloway play for Indiana Elite.  To the best of my knowledge Garcia does not. Also, neither one of them are Top 100 guys.  Our two verbals are.

Leal is 100 on composite. It seems they met at the Adidas Gauntlet or something. Not much more than Dawson met Lewis at USA basketball camp.

Remember, NCAA rules prevent a b-ball or football dorm.  These dorms MUST have at least 51% regular students, not student athletes.

Total opposite experience for me.

Hutch, Wardle, Clausen, Cliff, Henry, Harris, Diggs, ODB, and Wade. I was in three classes with Henry. Worked as a partnership, on our asking, in the latter two.

Someone in the department approached me to take notes, I got paid for it.
Literally was no skin off my back, as I was taking those notes for myself anyway.

100% the same feel I had.  My frosh year (2011) that team hardly ever interacted with the student body.  By the time I graduated (2015) you'd see most of those guys at house parties.
