I think because Malnati was retiring and who knows what is next for the friars.  Damari Nixon also announced at the same time that he was transferring, although I have not heard to where

Was it officially announced he is going to Whitney? I haven't heard anything on it.

He won 15U MVP a year ago with Wisconsin Playground Warriors. 

This year 16U Phenom University won the 17U Gold AAU Super Showcase in Orlando.

Yes- at least in the sense that I read an article announcing it. Don't know enough about what makes it officiall for HS kids- probably enrolling. La Lumiere was the other supposed potential spot.

People keep saying that. I'd feel better if we were at least making final 4, 6 or even 10 lists. Looks to me like 2019 recruiting so far has been a waste - lots of offers to top players, nary a nibble.
