I'm not complaining about Wojo's recruiting - it's bee fine. But I don't understand this kind of blue and gold glasses thinking. You invest months (years?) into recruiting top tier talent but it's no big deal when you don't make their final three? When does it become a big deal? When you miss on second tier prospects? Third? Fourth? Or never, since everyone eventually fills their roster?

I'd much rather have landed one of them. I really wanted Carton. But the most gutting loss in the past year had to be Grimes. We felt legitimately in it until the final week and there was some smoke we were going to win that one. When it all fell apart, that sucked. Both because it felt like we had a legit shot and because the staff went to such lengths only to lose out.

Selfishly, I'd love to be on Watts' list when he releases it tomorrow. I'd love for him to come here. But if we're not going to win the recruitment, being left off ala Carton is better than it being drawn out like Grimes.

I'm guessing we cooled on him, because we all know that Wojo always gets some of his men.

Here is the challenge to landing an elite PG for the 2019 class.    More than NCAA success.       Markus Howard, Greg Elliot, Koby McEwen.    We would all love to have an elite PG for 2019.   Convince one to come in and share time.     Good luck.

You guys worry too much.

Amen.
I mean, for all the drama and teeth-gnashing over the vast resources supposedly wasted on the recruitment of Grimes, Wojo and staff were able to pivot just fine and come away with Chartouny and McEwen.
We've seen nothing from this staff to indicate they're clueless when it comes to allocating their recruiting time and resources
So, I don't know, trust the process maybe.

Isn't this logic faulty with last years class being pretty unheralded after an NCAA bid and after an NIT bid we got Joey and two of the top availible transfers?
Not if u know how recruiting werks

I want to clarify - I'm only disappointed in not getting much traction with Carton and possibly Watts.  Not down on Wojo or the staff's recruiting success or strategy as a whole. I'd be more disappointed if we didn't even recruit elite players.

I expect Watts to have MU as one of his 6 as he is friends with Cain and Elliott, why not get a free trip to visit his friends.  Then it will be up to those 2 to help
MU get him on board.  I do not think any real competitor should be concerned about competition.  If Watt is better than McEven so be it.  But MU needs to recruit
another guard as Chartonney will be gone and Howard will be a senior.

In response to your questions above,  I believe ,for a Big East level school, it becomes a big deal when your missing on second tier prospects. A roster, at a minimum ,  has to be filled with  enough players who can reasonably be expected to be starters on a Big East level team. For example,  the wheels started coming off the wagon for Buzz when he had to fill his recruiting classes with 3rd and fourth tier guys( Jamail Jones , Jamal Ferguson etc).

To be fair jamail jones was a top 100 prospect. So was Erik Williams for that matter. Just can't predict how some guys will pan out

Two Wisconsin kids in the top 3. Are we on any of them?

We have offered #1 Pat Baldwin Jr. I'm not sure if we have contacted #3 Michael Foster since his decommitment from Arizona State a few weeks ago.

Jamal Ferguson was too. Not by the time of the final rankings, by then he dropped to borderline 2/3 star area, but early on when we offered, he was highly regarded by some services. At the time of his commitment, ESPN had him #62 in his class. He was still in the Rivals 150 by the time he signed his NLI.

Carton committed to Ohio State today. I'm both surprised and disappointed, would've rather seen him at Michigan to help our chances with Watts.

346 schools are going to miss out on each player. I'd say if they missed out on everybody in the top 100-150 they were after they'd be mad but think of it like when you applied for college, did you not have a reach school, couple schools you should get into and a safety? Same in recruiting, you have a reach recruit and just because it's unlikely doesn't mean you don't try.

Only 346??

Agree 100%. Wojo has recruited his best roster yet. Now, it's time  for Marquette to win big time.

Definitely disappointing. Mannion the new #1. Don't get him and I think Mr. Bishop will be the pick.

Agreed. This feels like one of those Buzz classes where we went big game hunting early, were on a bunch of top-40 guys' lists, and may come up short.
