ESPN released new recruiting rankings today. A few stood out:

2019

28: DJ Carton
31: Rocket Watts
35: EJ Liddell
43: Samuell Williamson

http://www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/playerrankings

2020

5: Jalen Johnson
20: Nico Mannion
22: Jabri Abdur-Rahim
27: Johnny Juzang
32: Dawson Garcia
34: Cam'Ron Fletcher
40: Caleb Love

http://www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/playerrankings/_/class/2020/view/terrific25/sort/rank/order/true

2021

1: Patrick Baldwin, Jr.
3: Michael Foster

http://www.espn.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/playerrankings/_/class/2021/view/super60/sort/rank/order/true

The big standout is obviously Baldwin at #1. I remember various services having Stone, Ellenson, Tokoto, and Jamil Wilson as top-5 players at some point, but don't remember a #1 from Wisconsin. Certainly not two top-3 players. And I mentioned Foster because I don't think he ends up at ASU (though probably not MU either).

I suspect we are out for Liddell. My dream 2019 is Carton and Williamson (now that Wilson is off to Michigan) but Watts would be great too. I think Carton is a bit more of a true point.

2020 will be huge as we're slated to have 4 scholarships come off the books (Howard, Hauser, Morrow, Anim). Really hope Stan can pull off his West Coast magic with Mannion and hope the rumors about Johnson wanting to stay close to home are true. Really like to see a center in that class as John and Eke will both be upperclassmen in 2020-21.

I have no expectation of Baldwin, but that ranking made me wonder...if Stan left, would it be worth offering Pat Baldwin Sr a job as assistant and exceeding his UWM paycheck (I believe $350k)?

Neither Baldwin nor Foster will play in college is my guess.

Old News. They are now saying 21 or 22.

Right. Which is why I don't think Baldwin or Foster play college basketball.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

Thanks Brew, but you missed a couple from 2020.

15. Isaiah Jackson
24. MarJon Beauchamp

Jackson is a HS teammate of Watts and both play for The Family.  I'm pretty sure both visited for Madness last fall. If MU lands Watts and has a strong season, Jackson could be very much in play.

Beauchamp might be a bit of a long shot but Marquette has been mentioned with him in a few recent articles.

At this point, I'd take either Carton or Watts for 2019.  A reclassified Mannion could also be in play.  Any one of those 3 would be a huge get.

Williamson and Lundy look like the main prospects for the other spot.  There's always a chance that a new name pops up but right now those two are the prospects to watch.

2020 will be interesting.  Wisconsin and Minnesota both have strong looking classes.  Wojo seems to be emphasizing 6-3 PGs and tall, skilled forwards.  I'm curious to see how it shakes out and what names we're talking about a year from now.

jsglow

So let's set aside all the tweets about '20 for a moment and zero in and do some analysis on this '19 class as we're getting down to it here in June.  For you guys that are super close, our priorities? Who can sign immediately, no questions asked? Who might be a plan b?  Any on that list a 'pipe dream'?

We've got 7 guys listed.  Sure looks like Wojo really wants a point plus one other player at more of an off guard/wing.  Let's drill down here.   8-)

burger

My opinion is we do not go for plan B....No compromises.....We get who we want......

If we don't.....

We go after the next McEwen.......

Maybe I explained it poorly.  What I was looking for is priority.  There's no way that all 7 are viewed the same way by Wojo.

I'm no insider, but it seems like the plan is point guard and other. I would imagine the priority would be:

PG: Carton, Watts, Bishop, McKinney, Gaffney
Other: Williamson, Lundy

I don't feel particularly strong about either of the 2 "others" but I think we have good shots at Watts and Bishop. The question is will Wojo take two from the PG column if he doesn't land either Williamson or Lundy.

We just offered 2020 #41 Ethan Morton, too.

Definitely casting a wide (but highly ranked) net - you hope that the coaching staff has a lot of confidence in this season's performance convincing a few of these top 50 players to come aboard.

Herman Cain

I like that the coaching staff is setting their standards high . These kids all know each other and having MU in the conversation  among the better players has a way of eventually leading to one or two of them casting their lot with us .

Mr. Sand-Knit

Makes one wonder what this staff could be doing with back to back tourney bids n recruiting momentum...oh well.  Does make this season huge tho for the trajectory of tge program.  The 2020 and classes are as good as any claases have  ever been locally.  Huge opportunity to put together top 10 classes.

Personally, I think the McKinney ship has sailed, but otherwise agreed.

Article on James Bishop. Says we are one of the top three along with St. John's and VCU. Here's the blurb on Marquette:

QuoteMarquette: "I like them. Coach Wojo (Steven Wojciechowski is from Baltimore so we kind of have that connection. They are telling me that there's opportunity to come in and play right away. You know nothing promised, but if I come in and work hard I will be in a good position."

How big is Bishop? A couple of sites list him at 6'2", but ESPN thinks he's 5'11".
Maybe ESPN's site is somewhat dated?
I've gotten the impression that Wojo is favoring bigger guards after the troubles on D last year.

Based on his picture I assume it has to do with if you measure to the top of his head or the top of his hair  :)

Gabe played for WI Playground Warriors 16U this spring in the Under Armour league... in two sessions, had some rocky outings shooting and with turnovers. 38.8% eFG% (47.8% 2FG%; 22.7% 3FG%, 65.7% 3FGA/FGA e.g. he took a lot of treys and missed 'em, 79 ORtg, 26.5% usage, 27% to rate. Did post an 18.5% DR%.

-------
Hoping to get my eyes on Dawson Garcia and Dain Dainja (assuming he's back to the Twin Cities on Sunday)... nice high school tournament going on at Hopkins HS.

In addition to Prior Lake and Park Center (Dawson and Dain, respectively), others there include Rochester John Marshall (Matthew Hurt), Lakeville North (Tyler Wahl), East Ridge (2021 Kendall Brown is of interest to me) and Hopins (Nnjai)

Thanks, seems like Gabe's stock might be dropping a bit. If he continues those shooting numbers I don't see us pursuing.

Did you get to watch Garcia? I've only watched recruiting videos but he is the one I most intrigued by in the 2020 class. I see a skinny Henry Ellenson, mobile big man with at least a little bit of an outside shot.
