Great to see. Sounds like overall the visit went well over this summer. Would be a really good fit for what we project Shaka's system to be and would be great to get more kids out of Chicago area.

MU offered a 2023 Guard from Baltimore https://twitter.com/JahnathanLamot1/status/1423702447198023683?s=20

Ranked #38 in 247, looks like he's picking up some major offers lately including lliinois, LSU, Creighton, Maryland, Penn State, etc.

2023 combo guard Jahnathan Lamothe was offered by MU yesterday.  Some publications have him ranked as high as #38 in the country.

Nice write up here on his game: https://www.pointguardeyes.com/jahnathan-lamothe

0 for what now?  When will Shaka get a 2022 recruit?   Too many freshman and sophomores scaring them off?

As long as he offers recruits that also have UVA, MSU or (fill in the blank with offers from very high level teams), he's going to lose the lion's share of the battles. Marquette will be a tough sell vs. teams like UVA and MSU until Shaka has us looking much better. Did anyone really expect Holloman to choose Marquette?

Players who choose UNC and Virginia are not afraid of our roster.

They aren't "afraid of our roster," but they can be concerned about playing time.

I'd be tempted to buy your argument if we hired an unknown assistant or low-major coach looking to move up. We didn't do that. We went out and hired an experienced high-major coach with 12 years of D1 head coaching experience (including a final four).

All that matters is what players he gets in the end...and whether or not he wins with those players. If he lands players that he ultimately wins with, he can strike out on as many recruits as he wants.

I do think having 9 players with 4 years of eligibility remaining is a hurdle to overcome in recruiting.

True, but our experienced high major coach is not enough to overcome Marquette's near term prospects. Can we agree that they are not stellar? That's not an indictment of Shaka, but he is offering recruits a chance to join a team that is in the midst of a full rebuild. Other experienced high major coaches are not saddled with a rebuild and will very likely be solid tourney teams. Look at this through the eyes of a highly rated recruit and tell me what you think his decision will likely be. This is not a chance to play in a conference with Kansas, Baylor, etc.

Shaka has left the building in Texas and with that, an important part of his recruiting ability was left behind. To repeat, he has to make us much more attractive via coaching and development of the players that he has. Then, and only then, I think he should be held accountable if he cannot land some few highly rated recruits.

I wanted Moser, so I am watching how Moser does at Oklahoma. So far he does not have any 2022 recruits. Yesterday, I looked at the other Big East teams. By memory only 4 Big East teams have 2022 recruits.
It is early in the 2022 recruiting season.

I think Scoopers need to adjust their expectations to a different recruiting strategy versus the very narrow and focused one under Wojo. Shaka's net is much wider to start (including a new school, league (for Shaka) and Covid. Shaka is a relationship guy

Great developments based on interest so far. Back into Chicago, including Mean Streets. Back into MKE circles. Building on DMC and Virginia network via Team Melo (Morsell, Lewis, Haynes connections). Hasn't lost the Texas interest.

Shaka will lose more because he is in more. But he is also (re)building AAU relationships too.

I was honestly curious so I looked, your memory is off. 8/11 have 2022 commits with 2/8 having multiple commits. That being said, you are correct that it is still early in the 2022 recruiting season. If we're still at 0 after the early signing period (November), I'll be a little concerned.

Butler: 1 commit (out of 5 known openings)
UConn: 3 commits (out of 5 known openings)
Creighton: 0 commits (out of 4 known openings)
DePaul: 0 commits (out of 8 known openings)
Georgetown: 1 commit (out of 3 known openings)
Marquette: 0 commits (out of 4 known openings)
Providence: 1 commit (out of 7 known openings)
Seton Hall: 1 commit (out of 6 known openings)
St. Johns: 2 commits (out of 6 known openings)
Villanova: 1 commit (out of 5 known openings)
Xavier: 2 commits (out of 4 known openings)

I really like this take Doc. Very nicely summed up.

Totally agree about expectations, Dr. B.

Some of Shaka's biggest proponents on Scoop all but guaranteed that he not only would win big but would win big early because he'd be an immediate pied piper to star recruits. As recently as a couple weeks ago, one said there'd be "no free pass" for Shaka if we don't make the NCAAs this season.

Though ever optimistic, I'm realistic enough to think that it will be very difficult to net an NCAA bid in 2021-22. But I'm still high on the program's future for many of the reasons you discussed.
