What's a better way to phrase this?

All the chairs were filled in musical chairs and then a new one was added.
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Because we never competed with ETSU.  He had a final three that didn't include ETSU, including two P6 schools, but my guess is that coaching changes left him without a spot.  ETSU is likely where he fell.
OK, well I'm coming at it from a different angle i.e. we've got some guys on the roster and incoming recruits where we definitely competed against other mid-majors and we will likely have more in the future.

With the free transfer rule a player can pick a school that he can start at as a freshmen and then transfer to a power 6 school, if he shows he has talent. Maybe this will be more desirable in the future, Go to a top program and not play much as a freshmen or choose a school you expect to play a lot as a freshmen knowing it is easy to transfer after your freshmen year.

Gone are the days of competing with East Tennessee State for recruits.

Thank god

Instead we are beating out Elon, Radford, Rhode Island, and Charleston Southern for Keeyan Itejere.

I am keen on Keeyan.

We agree. I think he's a high upside kid that could be a diamond in the rough type. I'm just pointing out that it's not like we started beating out blue bloods as soon as Shaka arrived, and we didn't stop adding under the radar types either.

I think shaka monitors guys from that VCU recruiting area well. Keeyan also an offer from them. But he fits the mold of an under the radar guy you actually go after. For me they have to be newish to basketball too make sense.

Austin Nunez Marquette is mentioned in the top four as far as recruiting him the hardest.

For all of Wojo's faults - and I was certainly happy to point them out over the last few years - to say that we were competing for kids at the ETSU level just isn't accurate.

Seems like Fluffy (and others) are right.  As time went on the kid's options narrowed dramatically.

Unranked but has offers from MU, Iowa, Maryland, NC State, Nebraska, South Carolina, Texas Tech, Xavier...

He'll soon be on that Ivan Renko trajectory.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Some typo-ed "Steve" as "Teve" in a comment and it became Scoop canon.

My revisionist history is that this was back when scoop was purer. One of my favorite entries into the scoop meme tournament

Bryce Lindsay talks Marquette connections, as he went from being recruited by DeAndre Haynes at Maryland to DeAndre Haynes at Marquette, and also went to school with Justin Lewis.

Glad Marquette is still involved.  But I chuckled when I read ETSU reached out.

The NCAA final date is 7/7, which is 10 days after the Combine ends. The NBA has a later date, buts that's not relevant here.  I suspect we will know a lot more after the Combine invitations go out.  Doubt that Dawson would stay in the draft process if he is not invited to the Combine.  The Combine is from 6/21-6/27 and the invites go out a week or 10 days prior to the start.

Yup. June 11 is the date I'm keeping an eye on. We'll know a lot more once we see that list, and that's typically when it's made public.

Awesome. Excited to see Shaka get him on campus!

Should we read into Marquette and UW getting unofficials only? As in, an in-state courtesy? Or just doesn't need a formal because of his proximity?
