depaul currently top 10 2021 class via 247. unreal never seen em get 3 top 90 kids in a class i can recall off.

In the 1998 recruiting class, Pat Kennedy cheated like crazy to get Quentin Richardson (No. 9 recruit), Lance Williams (No. 24) and Bobby Simmons (No. 26).

Parlayed that haul into one NIT win over Northwestern and one NCAA loss to Kansas (in OT, at least). Kennedy was sent packing in 2002 after two disastrous seasons.

So we'll see what this recruiting class means. Unlike at least one delusional Scooper, I'm not quite ready to say it's time for MU fans to wish we were DePaul.

Recent MU offer TJ Power is reclassifying from class of 2022 to class of 2023.

MU was first high major to offer. Since then, Iowa, Miami (FL), BC, Penn State, and Providence have all offered.

I'm as amateur as they come and have only seen his highlight videos, but I really like this guy's game. Think he'll end up being a quality get for whoever lands him.

That former target list looks like the old Buzz days when he offered like half the McDonald's All-American candidates early on.

Holmes and Etienne would be a great way to round out the class.

What are our chances at getting one or both of them?

Good question MU82.  Getting a little nervous this class is going to be mediocre.  Hoping for the best.

Holmes will be tough, Etienne is a long shot. That's my read anyway. No inside information.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

We already have two 4* top 100 type players. How is that mediocre?

Maybe he meant mediocre for the Big East. Which I would agree with.

All it takes is one transfer in spring to change the recruiting to average to respectable.  All it takes is getting another Carton, and everything will be fine.  700-1000
kids transfer every year.  Two recruiting seasons now.

Agreed doesn't matter how we get them, just   need to keep getting at least one high level recruit each year.  Carton and Garcia move the needle more than fringe top 100 recruits.  However if the fringe players turn out to be first team all big East players by their senior years that is a huge bonus.

Yep. It's one season at a time now. There's no need to look too far into the future. There's too much roster flux each offseason these days. Young guys on the squad we're counting on will leave. Guys we don't know will show up and play major roles.

Coaches build their roster for one season, the season ahead. Of course, you've got to keep any eye on the future, but there's little reason to worry too much about roster balance three years from now; too much will change.

I like the look of the 20-21 roster, and I think both Jones and Mitchell are good additions. Size will materialize.

Jockey

Size doesn't matter.

Houston Rockets have a 6'5" center.

Toronto, with a chance to go to a second straight NBA final, has 2 starting guards under 6'.

Skills matter.

Pretty sure a class of two Top 100 prospects isn't mediocre in the Big East.

Technically, its a class of 1 top 100 prospect and he's #98. Stevie Mitchell is #101. Just outside the top 100 but still outside.

Plus, that's only using one service. If you use the 247 Composite rankings, they drop to #108 (SM) and #154 (KJ).

Reality is, 247 ranks our class as 8/11 in the Big East. If you go back to previous seasons, here's how it would rank:
2020: 7th
2019: 5th
2018: 8th
2017: 10th
2016: 9th
2015: 7th
2014: 8th
2013: 6th

So in the 9 recruiting classes of the new Big East, our current class would've finished in the top half exactly once (5th in 2019). We can quibble over the definition of mediocre but I think if we end up with just Stevie and Kameron, I think mediocre is a fair descriptor, especially given how many scholarships we need to fill.

All that being said, our recruiting class is far from over. If we end up with any two of Taylor, Holmes, Aidoo, Etienne, and Breidenbach, that class goes from mediocre to solid.

The two lowest rated of those five by the composite are Taylor and Aidoo. Add the two of them, and the class rankings look like this instead:

2021: 4th
2020: 4th
2019: 3rd
2018: 4th
2017: 4th
2016: 3rd
2015: 4th
2014: 5th
2013: 2nd

100% in the top half of the conference, indisputably solid.

TLDR: Current class isn't enough, but the class is far from finished.
